22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))
Just for the record:
Palisades lots declared full at 9:30 am yesterday
https://twitter.com/palisadesops/sta...677968387?s=21
Somebody said they drove four hours from El Dorado Hills to The Epic Palisades.
This morning, traffic was not backed up through Tahoe City to Lake Forest like yesterday, but it's very slow getting into the canyon so still on edge for getting a parking spot. It is 8:20 and I'm just getting to the 89 roundabout.
Yesterday, for reference, I got to Alpine just before nine and they parallel parked us outside of the subway lot. I feel like I barely made it in. When I left at 1:30, there were parking sharks circling and one guy actually waited for me to take my boots off and leave so he could grab my spot.
ETA: my friend was going to meet me for skiing and coming from Donner Lake. Said they moved about one car length per minute for 15 minutes and bailed.Even sometimes when I'm snowboarding I'm like "Hey I'm snowboarding! Because I suck dick, I'm snowboarding!" --Dan Savage

You already overslept...
*certainly not "peak corn" but well on the way and pretty darn fun
Were you with Brennan? Looks like I saw the same location on his insta the other day.
No Brennan in our group. If you are talking about Lagasse I'm pretty sure it's not the same zone. The only tracks we saw yesterday were 4+ days old.

Somehow even the Saturday blackout isn't working at KW. A buddy of mine on Saturday left the east bay at 6 and didn't get on the hill until almost 11. Got one of the last spots after sitting in traffic on the spur for an hour. Too many people around here ski.

Gimpy, what day was that? Coyote was telling me it was in play. I was on my way up there but got turned around in Pollock Pines due to my truck crapping out.

yeah.
Left the bay at 4am Sat, at AM parking lot by 7:45 and missed all the traffic. Left AM around 11 Sunday and home in 3 hours and 15 minutes, a new record for me. Pretty easy to beat traffic.
Yes it would be better if I could roll out of bed at 7 and waltz in to the front row parking at 11am but I don't think I have seen that anywhere ever in my life.
Yes it would be better if it didn't take 2 hours to go from Truckee to Tahoe city at 8:30am on a Saturday, but its not like its unpredictable at this point.

I left Truckee at 7am yesterday and got to Alpine in like 20 minutes. Guy I talked to on the lift left 15-20 minutes after me and said it took like 45 to get there. It's predictable, just set your alarms accordingly. And maybe bring a book or some playing cards.
Ready for some January corn... and less hype.I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

I saw a couple pull up in a Tesla in the Palisades lot yesterday in front of me. I was there earlier for the Far West race but they were just there to ride. They literally pulled in front of me and then both went to sleep for an hour. Everyone is now in on the fact that you gotta get there super ass early. The Mousehole rule on 89 used by 7:30am, now it's almost 7am as TahoeJ pointed out.
Later around noon the parking lot was a joke. People were creating their own parking spaces, moving cones, etc. My son's race ended just before 2pm and we bolted. Another ski race parent got stuck on 89 going 5mph for over an hour as she left way too late from Palisades.

My personal record, in a storm with the freeway chained but open, left Olympic Valley at noon when the lifts closed, arrived at my house near west end of Donner Lake at 5 PM. People who left NLT later got to spend all night on 89 after the freeway closed. This was about 15 years ago.
745a used to be our departure time to Olympic Valley on Saturday. Now we don't bother, but 745 is way too late. The problem is, as people start leaving earlier and earlier to beat the traffic the whole mess just moves earlier and earlier--eventually mousehole by 7 will be mousehole by 630 will be mousehole by 6 and on and on. That will be the big selling point for the Village if it ever gets built--you get to sleep in.

Sounds like what we've been dealing with in little cottonwood canyon. This year Alta's implemented parking reservations (paid for non-passholders, free for passholders) and the situation is greatly improved. Last year it was "in the lot by 730-8 to get a good spot", now it's "drive up whenever you want as your parking is guaranteed".
There's some downsides too, and it has probably made big cottonwood worse, but I'd imagine your resorts are watching.

I think parking reservations would be less successfully or have more pushback at SquAlpine. It's unlimited on the ikon pass which pretty much everyone I know who skis there owns. It's not a situation like Alta where they can give out free reservations to passholders and then charge ikon/day passes.
If they required $25 a day reservations for all ikon pass holders there might be a riot. If they require them only for day ticket holders I can't imagine it will put much of a dent in anything (having no visibility into the numbers).
We were also laughing at the fact they don't run the base to base shuttles because of too much traffic some days.

A traveling nurse's dog went missing in August from SLT. Owner was forced to evacuate by the Caldor fire and had to go on another assignment. During the mid December blizzard the dog was spotted by a skier up in the mountains and rescued by Tahoe PAWS volunteers on snowshoes. Healthy, and returned to its owner in Socal.
