Sure are a lot of dead trees on Schallenberger Ridge on Donner Lake. The bark beetles have really taken off. I thought the winter was cold enough to knock them down but according to the fire inspector we talked to apparently not. A lot of our neighbors have a dead tree or two--good luck finding someone to cut it down and if they do it will cost a fortune. That's the problem with forest thinning and defensible space--not nearly enough people to do the work Keeping our fingers crossed about our trees.

Just got in from a Castle Valley perambulation - was disturbed by how many standing dead trees with brown needles still on them were observed. Can I assume that this is also bark beetle mortality?

I would happily give the info of the pge contractor that did the work on my property this spring (for pge). He’s a climber and foreman. I know he does side work to fill his off days when living away from family. The work he and his crew completed was all via climbing and all relatively simple, but they did a great job. No fancy friction line work or anything, so I don’t know the extent of his quals.
