Some sun protected areas at sugarbowl are becoming more chalky and less ice/hard pack, but it’s still a mixture. I can still see through the ice on many tops of moguls.

Okay so hopefully February bounces back. *Checks extended forecast.* Dry through at least the 14th. Fuck me. Time to hit the road soon.

Looking at the Mammoth "Extended Snowfall History" there have been a handful of years where a dry January resulted in dry months for February & March but mostly, one of those months saves the season, so fingers crossed.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

If he had a heart attack, he followed it up by striking numerous trees immediately after. I went in and checked out the scene our of morbid curiosity. There was plenty of evidence telling a pretty grim story.

GFS now says dry through Feb 16. Usually the GFS has some fantasyland storm always at the end near hour 384 (last frame of each run is 384). You know it's bad when you aren't even seeing any fantasyland storms on the GFS.

Heard the same from a friend and then he just left for the day after that. Speaking of hitting the road, shouldn't you be off somewhere that had more than 2 weeks of winter?

I once asked an ER doc if I should be bringing the AED to trauma scenes. He told me that it’s not common for people to die from a heart attack as a direct result of trauma.

I'm usually *scoffing in Colorado* about what folx on here call corn, but this was real corn. 4" of loose wet grains on a firm, smooth surface and old tracks were just as soft as untracked areas.

So how bad will Presidents Day traffic be with no new snow since the dinosaurs roamed the earth?

I would guess it's going to be an improvement over now with more melt/freeze cycles and warmer/longer days (slightly offset by melt out). I can report later today about conditions inbounds.

People already booked their vacations / rentals a long time ago. It will still be an absolute shit show. That was the case in drought years past as well.

Don't worry guys. I left CA on Dec 13th (start of snowpocalypse) and returned on Jan 1, the last day of fresh snow. I will be leaving again on the 18th for a bit so expect a huge dump around then.

Thanks for stoke pictures. If people want a hat trick: skate ski at dawn, corn patrol, then ice skate boca at dusk.

Starting to notice a new trend with new-in-towns who were complaining about plowing a month ago: extreme concern about the length of the dry spell. Like, was that it? Is winter over? Do we need to move somewhere it actually snows? Welcome to the Sierra, bish. We get feast and famine and stay fed one way or the other.
