Seems like the tool of choice this morning is the Umbrella rather than a shovel or blower. Warmer now than when I went to bed.

Ditto. Same slushy inch and clear snow flakes as 8 hours ago.

22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))

I know this is unpopular, but I think we should consider holding off in the bc until things settle a bit. Yeah, you're saying, I wasn't gonna get gnardical anyway in the middle of a storm with an avalanche warning. Right. That's good. What I'm saying is that we should consider how willingly some slopes will slide, basically at the ground, maybe even lower angle slopes. When these go, they take away the base we needed a month ago. So, where you see shooting cracks, keep your slope angle lower, reduce complexity of terrain and seek less-loaded areas. Another few days of waiting could really help with the long term problems in the snowpack (and keep you from getting hurt).

    ^^ from Mt.RoseSkiTahoe site:
"We have experienced several small snow fractures this am around the Rose side, a warning to those thinking of heading into back country."
And just saw KW is closed for today.

22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))

Heading up Wednesday morning. Looking for best guesstimate on what might be open. Here is my best guess
Wed - Alpine - roundhouse. Nstar- backside
Thursday- alpine - summit. Squaw - shirley lake. Nstar - backside
Friday - KT, summit, granite. Nstar - backside, lookout.

    Would appreciate feedback.

The real question is how will you be getting here and will that be open?

edit- i would also add that Sugar Bowl is probably not the only resort experiencing staffing issues. They tend to be more upfront about things than the major resorts. That could hamper opening new terrain as we are use to. Even sugar bowl didn't mention how this will affect snow safety, grooming, diesel mechanicing, etc. which all could take longer.

Here it comes! Snow is no longer edging itself in KB. Finally changed over and really starting to blow.

Snow is super gloppy here at 6300.
It's like elephant snot and wet cement.
It's so thick and heavy that it gummed up and broke the augers on the industrial plower attempting to clear my driveway...

I'm back in Sonoma and it was absolutely dumping rain here a few hours ago (we have some flooding in the area already) - once that hits Tahoe it should be game on.

The Northstar ad qualifies as black comedy.

Board meeting at Vail Resorts or Alterra...

"Our stock price (current or post-IPO) is taking a hit because we can't hire enough, because the housing is all Airbnbs, or second or third vacation houses."

"Goddamn environmentalists won't let jobs creators build enough."

"But being a green company helps our stock price."

"The invisible hand of the market will fix it."

"What do they do for workers dorms in China?"

"It should be easy to build workers dorms for a couple of hundred people. We're billionaires."

    "What about robots?"

"I've got one of those Boston Dynamics robot dogs for my place in Beaver Creek."

"What about keeping it charged? Does Beaver Creek have a microgrid for when the power goes out?"

"I've got a propane generator for backup."

"We should talk to Elon Musk."

*Seeing sun and rainbows this morning, like us? Wondering where this epic monster storm is? Well, what we've had so far is just the appetizer. The main course is coming up later today, tonight, and Tuesday morning.*

Do I need chains to get over the pass?

But seriously, I think its going to take a bit to get things going at the resorts. I'm up at PT Friday - Tuesday morning and frankly stoked to finally ride some lifts and spend time on the mountain with the kids.

I know a couple Vail patrollers not patrolling because they don’t want to get a vax

Cant speak to alpine or northstar, but just about zero % chance The California Ski Resort opens KT or granite by friday. Would be hoping for something closer to siber with hopefully reverse traverse. Plus red dog, gold coast, and maybe shirley. KT takes lot of setup work and granite always on the backburner till everything gets staffed up.

Silverado for sure opening tomorrow, though.
