I don't know. Radar shows the snow levels holding around 9k. still all snow at the top of rose web cam. in fact the mid mountain slide cam shows all snow at 8,300' while the winters creek lodge cam shows rain at 8,200'. They are both pointed at each other.

    It is definitely RAINIng

    Any flooding up around Tahoe

I might have to put on the gear and go look at the Truckee river. Seems like some acute flooding is likely
My phone was going off last night about flooding in Lassen county to the north of me

looks like it's switching over ot 7800' now, although they lost their 4" at the base. If things continue with eveything being on the low end of the snow level spectrum, this could get pretty huge pretty quick

22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))

Yeah, surprised not to see more reports of havoc, but then there was this:

Definitely made me think about those people driving over echo summit rn. Of course they are in the middle of blasting back the cliffs to add a bike lane on 40 but still, "geologic time includes now". I also wondered about the Twin Bridges side of 50, which got scorched.

Not uncommon to have some rockfall there during big storms. That looks relatively minor. The slide on Hwy 70 looks a lot more serious:

Road bed has been undermined. Tonight it’s going to be buried in 3 feet of snow
Won’t plow it ? And then what happens. I hope they see the road as a national treasure that has to be restored. But who knows nowadays

I would like to be wrong, but it’s closed for the winter and beyond

No it’s not, it’s just some rockfall they’ll clean up.

I can see in that picture of hwy 40 where the roadway could be compromised/undermined. Right where the water drops off the roadway.

That said, that area is confusing and it’s really easy to drop too low so I’d bet they are constantly dealing with people who are blowing it and getting lost. Hell I’ve been touring in that zone for 20 years and I still am constantly second guessing myself on that exit so i get it why they felt the need to install that flagging.

I feel the same way about flagging as I do about people who build cairns all over the place. Every year multiple trails around Tahoe are festooned with various colors of flagging for various adventure races. At least the organizers do a pretty good job of clearing the flagging after the races are over. One year--after the last big winter, whenever that was--a crew was cutting steps into the lingering snow on the Mt Judah loop trail for the "adventure" racers. Marking on actual trails is a good thing to keep people from making multiple use trails. In the winter let people do their own route finding.

    Agree.

2021 has been such a dumpster fire year, we keep getting images that sorta sum up the year.

I am guessing they just came down a hill and burned brakes hot enough to scorch entire rig. That’s where they likely ditched rig trying to gtfo once driver able to stop.
This happens in all the time in around here.

It says he collided with the wall and caught fire. But that sure looks like the front of his cab facing us, which perplexes me as much as how the fuck did he get out?

The storm is hitting the coast now. Rained a few inches overnight and misted all day. Almost a moment of seeing the sky around 11AM. Wind picked back up around 1PM and howling now, and the rain has very much increased in intensity. It feels like a much stronger storm than what had preceded it. Its gonna be a crazy night out there.
