I spent the w/e with the family at the resort. While ya'll were chasing the sunny side corn, we found some great snow in the shade. KW skied exceptionally well. It was mid winter firm pack for the most part. The sunny side softened a bit, but we found the best conditions in the shade. Wind board and bumps with a thin soft snow covering to move around. Honestly it felt like a good day in Vermont or a typical day in Colorado. Two thumbs up. Best part of the weekend was my kid skiing with the girl who lives down the street from us at home. They rarely bother seeing each other at home, but were paired perfectly as skiing buddies. Lots of fun taking laps together and getting to hang out with one of my buddies as well.

Thunder Saddle, Waterfall, All the Way and from Cham to Sentinel skied quite well all weekend. Saturday was great, as the blackout works wonders there, and we ended up lapping 4 and ripping groomers much of the day. Tho, I'd say, backside was not the best snow and was really just groomer skiing back there.

Still, I sure hope it snows again this winter. The pack has settled a lot since I was there two weeks ago.

    AM on Sunday was money.

Lift lines weren't too bad over the weekend but lots of human gates to slalom around on everything groomed.

Palisades Tahoe report. My kids had races and a big mountain comp so was kind of running around the mountain like a crazy parent trying to get some skiing in but also trying not to miss their runs. Snow got progressively worse through Monday but that's not to say the groomers and my 'not so hidden' zones skied rather well. Highlights include Just below the summit of McConkey's, 3 Trees and the Oly Lady zone, the steeps under Red Dog and Resort Chair, and Hanging Gardens in Silvy. Most of the offpiste zones of the mountain was pretty firm...ie Headwall, most of Silvy and most of KT. Other than the pesky flat light in and out over the weekend, it was a great few days to be on the snow.

Young goat thought the skiing was good in Idiot's, Palisades, Our Father, and Pete's--edgeable chalk. We both thought SF of Sherwood was good--scratchy corn. Mrs Young Goat has only skied a few times but she survived SFoS. Otherwise she and I stuck to groomers. I have earned the right not to ski bumps and no fall zones.

I've been going to Olympic BW but I've been finding they have a tendency to try to upsell--I may try Sports Hub in the future. Recommended by a patrol friend.

I'd second Doug as a good fitter. Did my boots and footbeds and I have zero complaints with either.

I rode sunny groomers at Palisades today and it was great. Shirley didn’t really soften and the tilled man made was semi tooth chattering. Great day though. Its not bulletproof off trail. Click image for larger version.

22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))

Any reports on the Nevada City MTBing about now? I could imagine the Harmony Ridge zone under snow, but I could also picture hero dirt.

Edit: sounds like another week or two before it’s truly fun.

this is a long shot, but does anyone have some rear-entry boots in size ~28.5?

Or anyone have a lead on where I can find some?

    They're back: https://www.skimag.com/gear/ski-boot...ar-entry-boot/

So I would imagine a few shops in the area are carrying some? Not sure if you want to spend that much for your limited time of broken ankle skiing, however.

Those would be nifty! But yeah I'm hoping that ideally this won't be more than a couple weeks. Ankle is feeling good overall, but damn -yeah putting on a boot is virtually impossible.

For going without snow for 3 weeks, The Resort skied exceptionally well yesterday on the cardinal aspect runs - all amazingly smooth, edgeable, and explosive winter chalk: East Face, West Face, North Bowl, South Chutes --- all in incredible shape.

The kind of afternoon that reminds you ski resorts are incredible - ski right onto the chair with a group of friends (kids are on ski team), laps on incredible snow, 20k vert in an afternoon.

    Fuck yeah skiing!

I had to endure locking my heel down for over a month a few years ago while my foot heeled. I don’t know how y’all can stand locking your heels all the fucking time!

i think they’d fit approx 11.5 street shoe (too big for my non broken foot). I used a cashed out old thermoliner to take up volume for my non-broken/swollen foot.

Most rental shops should have some mid-entry or rear entry boots available.
