I lost one this winter in France, had it out while waiting for others on the group, then left and forgot it was stuck in the snow. The next day a guide asked our guide if we had seen an axe where we had come from. One of his clients left one behind. Thankfully my guide sold me
One of his old ones really cheap.

Hello friends of the North. Are we allowed to skin up Alpine Meadows at the moment? Gonna be up that way next week and just noticing on the satellite that there is still plenty of snow.

Also, buy my stuff. Like I said, I'll be in Tahoe next week.

Just guessing that right now they don’t want people around the base of Alpine with the gondy construction underway. They still have a lot of work to do on that end.
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

Skied a few days ago but mostly transitioning back to mountain biking, I really enjoyed this season, probably get a few more days in but not many.

Here are some turns from early May, from Stevens, Freel and Markleville peak

    Probably my last day.
Round top, crescent moon couloir. One of my favorite lines in Tahoe, but i hate the approach, skin both ways.
Well, i didn't have to worry about this today, it was walk both ways, up to about 3/4 to the lake.

The couloir had good snow up to the dogleg, then deep unconsolidated hot snow, with lots of debris. Not sure from what, i didn't see any ski tracks.

If you don't mind the walk, i think in about a week there will be good smooth corn in the couloir.

Not do much on the way out . already suncups, not bad today, but probably not getting better.

Wow. Impressive hit this late in the season. When you're hiking to winamucca I guess it means the Tahoe thread is close to kaput for snow, unless ya'll are hiding some icebox stash somewhere.

I had a great season, especially appreciated the bonus skiing after saying sayonara mid april. Reports of winter's demise was greatly exaggerated.

and as soon as they (and Sierra) get some sort of parking option at/near the roundabout in Meyers that (the carpooling) will be a viable alternative. there is much space available a lot of which is comparatively ugly and useless FS land

I have no idea what the solution to kirkwoods parking problem is, but they sure have a problem.

I do think they need a contra-flow bus lane getting into the valley in the mornings, even just using the oncoming lane and forcing the few outbound cars to yield. Getting on the bus only to get stuck with all the cars inching forward to get turned around is stupid.

The entire highway coming to a standstill every weekend because parking is full is dumb too.

Obviously paving over the meadow is not the answer but what is then?
