Wanted to get out of the sheep pen and tour yesterday but the suspect avy conditions were a downer.
So I went to Powder Mountain for the first time. Snow was pretty damn good and they opened up Wally's World for the first time in awhile, so it was a pretty good day.

Disagree, that was awesome. Rarely do you get to see people's delusions about their skill level knocked down to earth en masse like that. Literally LOL'ed. Also, as noted by others, Mineral's best quality is that it's a black hole for beaters. Nothing was lost here, Dude.

Agree with the Norseman on this.
Stupid as fuck bad habit for the bird to have folks habituated to massive slope loads.
One thing in new snow on moguls, another on a touchy or early season snowpack.
Bad habit to encourage and perpetuate.
Could result someday in many folks involved in a large in area slide.

When I worked there we never allowed such behavior.
    With a touchy snowpack we would actually limit people into an area only a few at a time for a bit;
what that video shows is massive overloading of a slope.
And if there is a trigger point, one of them is finding it.

Not saying it mattered the other day, am saying a super bad habit to allow and encourage.
It's not really a rope drop. The rope is suspended in most places, just open at the gates and the public is ducking under and going over the rope for most of the ridge.
    Bad habits...

Prolly oughta add that things worked smoother the few years that they had enough staff that at least the core of the basin was open at 0900, or not at all cause of weather or mechanicals. Takes 8 patrol, 3 lifties. After opening, those 8 patrol are not needed for manpower the rest of the day.

Mineral opening at 9am makes a lot of sense. Creating a stampede and also viral videos of an area being stampeded is not a good look for any resort IMO.

^^ super stoked to hear your friend is alive and well. skinned up east bowl from solitude to ski flanagans right around 12:15. watched 3-4 girls ski from the ne corner of east bowl off the pinnacle right after noon. noticed several tracks off the top. must have missed it by just a few minutes. didn't see or hear anyone else but 3 skiers heading to west bowl but did hear sar when exiting and saw those folks at silver fork lodge helping out. great news man.

Certainly a scary and close call. Glad they were able to get him out in time, heard he was unconscious but breathing when they pulled him out... Sounds like an amazing rescue all around

Woof. Looks like a rough place to end up. Impressive work on the team getting em out.

Alta was….wierd today. Felt like 10 years ago. No traffic up at 930a, parked in a half full lot, effectively ski on lifts or minimal lines all day, the goods were good if you knew where to go, but definitely pow bumps. No traffic down at 3. Where did everyone go from yesterday?

Also, I’ve never seen more near collisions from the lift as Saturday. Not to mention the one I was involved in and another that almost happened, and a third close call on the high t today.

Great weekend skiing in the wasatch

Got the kids up for their first time at the Bird. Walk on tram and powder, the only way to roll.
