Called it 700' below the peak when we ran out of snow. I like talus surfing as much as anyone else but with 40mph wind gusts the summit wasn't a particularly attractive spot for lunch.
We thawed at this goat penthouse instead. Spent 1.5 hours in the sun trying to convince ourselves to get back in the freezer.

Seriously Down, I beg you. No need to make them great again, they've always been great. Just make more.

Steep and firm but at least consistent. Can't get too lose, there's a cliff band somewhere below:

Why don't we traverse around the peak to see what kind of shit snow is hiding on other aspects! Should be easy terrain to navigate:

All in all, a great day in the mountains. Firm snow makes you appreciate what we get on most normal years.

Nice Stoke Everyone! Love seeing all of us getting out despite the dry times!

Its funny how the ice climbing has been pretty great, love tossing a tool around and brings me back to my VT/NH days of getting sendy.

    Sunday:
Went upto Provo peak for a nice ass kicking, what an amazing place, sadly felt very spring esqe with a dry start through Rock Canyon. Approached through the campground but instead chose a sportier path in the cirque of East Provo and Provo proper. Man that place is kick ass felt like a few Nebos in line with each other. Also found the Powderbirds were circling the area, sort of a downer, just hearing the rotor washing in the background the whole time and felt they sort of buzzed us once they saw us approaching from that direction, the views were definitely worth it tho. Windy as fuck too, 30-40 id say. Required all the alpine bag of tricks to summit. Ski down was a mix of conditions but some spots you could open up.

Hell yeah! Both Cascade and Provo peaks are monsters, serious gnar on all aspects, huge lines, big slogs from the valley floors. Nice work!

Any recs for a shop/person to mount up a CAST system in SLC? Don't have access to a jig or workspace right now, and I know the tolerances are pretty low for CAST

Well that's definitely not intentionally misleading. Also convenient that they don't mention that it won't run during interlodge or during avalanche control.

Is it naive of me to think that a warm up might be a partial mitigation to the surface faceting problem?

Also, no emissions? Really? I mean, the bins don't have a fucking tailpipe spewing exhaust fumes but I'm pretty sure the thing isn't powered by Jebus' good will.
I'm also not sure giant steel towers are doing more to preserve the natural experience than a road that's already in place... but, they wrote it down, it simply must be true.

Got roped into this one late last night and figured why the hell not. Spent the first 30 minutes wondering if I should just turn around but fellow members of the bad idea's gang kept promising it looked better up high. I kept going, I'll take bad skiing over the office any day...
They were right. Some of the best spring snow I've skied in years. Couple of bare spots required taking the skis off but otherwise it goes to the road with minimal shenanigans. Helmets are probably a good call on that one, lots of bombs dropping off the walls.
