Bye bye to quiet rides on the Big Mtn trail. It was fun last year when you had to pedal your ass to the top and could ride the whole thing without dealing with anyone. I expect it will be blown out on day 3 this season...

Scoring one for the old guys here - Need to keep up with the Cirquescaler young gun crew!

Friday left SLC for the SCREEEEEETONNNSSS, arrived at Jackson Lake, loaded the pulks, and started crossing around 7PM. Let me tell you - if you ever really want to feel alone... cross Jackson Lake in the middle of the night...

Woke up the next morning to -20F on the outside thermometer, hard to get moving but with the objective straight in the face... its motivating to hit it! FTR it was so cold my hat brim snapped when i put my cap on!

Finished up and did some deft survival skiing all the way down to the lower apron. Man 2-6" windboard crusts with recycled powder between. A solid 3k+ of jump turns and power ensued, but fuck it was rad to be up there with just the two of us. Love Moran.

Came back to camp, had a fire, whiskey + tea and it was only -15 that night, so it was nice...

Attempted the Sickle the next day, boy is that line mega, cant wait to go back and try again (volunteers?). I ended up pulling the plug on the upper apron due to two simultaneous layer collapses that rang the whole apron leading to the Sickle couloir, my past experience made me not want to attempt to push an already successful trip. Backed down. Skied knee deep powder on the lower apron for a couple laps, and was a nice consolation and then slogged the 6 miles back to Colter...

I also still cant feel my fingies...

Point seems moot now but someone in JH thread said Moran was closed to all skiers Saturday and beyond to do a goat cull, I think.

That was the case, the GTNP called off the Cull at Friday at 5 PM as they hit their quota, so we were good to go. Called and confirmed with them

also get them now because it may not be easy next year. Skis are made in Ukraine and the plant is shut down for obvious reasons.

Your kid appears to be around that age (?) and based on how sendy he gets on bikes I bet he'd pedal up to the peak fine. Probably wouldn't enjoy it much though. Neither do I to be fair, that climb sucks major moose ass...
