At a minimum, the EIS cost estimates are already wildly out-of-date and UDOT should have to re-run them before any decision is made. When you start adding on "wish list" items not in the EIS on top of that this is a $2 billion project, easily. Maybe it was a done-deal at $500 million, but the longer this drags out the less likely it becomes that the legislature will fund it. SLC, SLCo, Sandy City and Town of Alta all being unequivocally opposed doesn't bode well, either.
    This.

I would assume that adding more cabins is not as simple as just slapping them on the existing design or perhaps UDOT purposely specified fewer cabins to keep the price down. Get it built and then do a mea culpa that you need more money to add cabins. I found a "standard" construction estimate for multi story parking structures, assuming no unusual construction conditions and it was $21,500 per space using 2019 $. That's $210 million, adjust for inflation and its easily more than a quarter of a billion $. The original $550 million is not even close, I bet its easily $750 and that does not include and of the proposed design changes.

Seems to be some weird political maneuvering happening around awarding the 2030 and 2034 Olympics: https://www.ksl.com/article/50442312...-be-years-away

They just want slc to be more like Sochi and Beijing, no natural snow.

Do people in Utah even want the Olympics? Besides the politicians and real estate developers (which are basically the same)?

I don't know anyone who wants these unless they are personally in a position to potentially profit...

I wasn't here for 2002. I'd love the Olympics as I get pretty excited when they happen every 4 years. The infrastructure spending and improvements would only benefit the valley.

Maybe it'll lead to more crowds at the resort and backcountry but at this point what difference does it make.

I was lucky enough to spend 01/02 in SLC. I thought it was a great time. Plus, my ski racing kids can win home gold! Kidding

BTW, does anyone know the plans for the old Sunnyside chairs. Will there be an auction, or will they otherwise be sold? I'm in the mood for a swing project.

Count me as a negative vote on the Olympics. I fail to see the benefit.

    I didn’t know you don’t even watch.
I think you’re the first person I’ve known to not enjoy Winter Olympics.

That sounds like they’re trying to deflect from the more probable issue of not having a fully functional tram running this winter. Everything I’ve heard is subside sunny side will e ready to go.

deflect away from their gondola land grab too

the reason I heard for albion still being in was that they weren't sure sunnyside was gonna be done. Imagine, albion basin with just the albion lift lol

Crazy George’s mom passed away. Great article about her restaurant, work ethic, and George’s role in Kitty Pappas’ Steakhouse. A true UT institution. I never put 2+2 together, being an observer. Now I know what George did after a few laps cruising around with a boom box on his shoulder, turning with the FOGs. RIP Kitty, thanks for the ski bums special occasion meals!
