Whoa, how did we move so quickly from lug nuts to anal fidgeting?

It's a thread about truckers, I think it's a pretty natural flow.

So, on Sunday I was out teaching this guy to ride motorcycles and my wife messages me that there’s a new driver who’s been struggling with her loading dock (which is a dumb one, requiring an unintuitive approach) for more than 2 hours.
So buddy and I ride up there. I introduce myself “hi, my wife is the manager here and I’m a truck driver, I’m here to help, what’s your name?”
Brand new guy, totally overmatched by this dock.
We walked it a bit, talked angles, etc, then he wasn’t sure he trusted me about where he had to go and u-turn to reset and re-approach. So I got him to get on the back of the motorcycle and we rode the whole route…
Then he disregarded my advice and bound himself up again.
So then I was like “OK Frank, ready to trust me yet? Let’s try it my way” and I literally stood on his stairs and said: wheel left, stop, back, straight wheel, back… etc until we got set up. Got out a couple of times because he still didn’t trust me and had to go see how it looked.
It was one of those hard hard days in a new driver’s career. What an adventure for him though, motorcycle ride, etc. I went home and gave him my 5th wheel puller, and gave him a hug, told him he has to do this for other new drivers someday. We talked a bunch about scouting sites and handling the dot times, etc.
Between that and teaching this buddy to ride, and phone calls talking another guy through fixing/using a truck he bought from me, my god damn brain was just shot to shit that night. What a day.

Jersey seems right for that truck.
Was at a vacation home getting the propane tank refilled and the delivery truck driver was talking to me about the truck drivers who drive across country. I said it looked fun and he said he did it for a few years and said it was an awful life. He said most of those trucks have two drivers and one sleeps in the back while the other drives and that no matter how well you get along with another human being in that small of a space for days/weeks on end is terrible. I always thought some of those truckers were single person operations, but I guess it makes sense that there are two people.Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

Back when I used to drive from the North Coast to the Lowcountry I'd leave after work and haul the 10 hours overnight. There was an AM radio show that came on at midnight, usually after the baseball game broadcast was over, called America's Truckin Network.
I think Guroo (?) here had some sort of producing or industry connection to it, or trucking in general.
Anyway, yeah, the callers and the issues they talked about made for a fascinating glimpse into a life I know I couldn't hack. Weeks away from family in a box while trying to maximize time/miles/dollars for yourself and your boss while trying to stay compliant with the law and also not trying to kill yourself or anyone else with your 80,000lb highway missile.
Oh, and just about everything in this country relies on these guys getting our shit from A to B.
And that's even before the meth/greenies and friends of the road issues.
Ufda.I still call it The Jake.
