It's Time To Update The Hall Of Fame!
(x-Posted in Ski/Snowboard because many of you don't venture there)
Since 2005, The Hall Of Fame subforum has had only two legitimate entries
- When Raps moved to Aspen in 2008
https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...l-me-T-J-Burke
- When Ape_Natural retrieved a camera lens for Single in 2010 – on crutches https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...the-Year-Award
In the meantime, certain pendejos have taken it upon themselves to add decidedly non-HOF threads, such as:
https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...ed-w-o-comment
https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...-eastern-block
And while some may say that the quality of threads here went to shit after the Rob Storey article, I still think there are several since then that are HOF worthy. Examples that come instantly to my mind:
- Rise to the Top (Tumble to the Bottom’s) adventures on Mt Adams https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...NH)?highlight=
- The GSA https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...-Spirit-Animal
- The Taos NM beta thread, even though it’s still going
https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...ew-Mexico-BETA
- The DigitalDeath – IVPlay ski-off and $37 dispute
https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...ise+to+the+top
- Bushwacka’s tutorial on releasable pole straps just last season https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...ard?highlight=
Some may argue the worthiness of each of the above, and no doubt there are many others worthy of memorializing in the Hall of Fame.
So here’s the plan after plugging in with certain moderators. Please:
- Recommend threads that belong in HOF
- Recommend threads that should be pulled. For example, there’s a lot of threads missing all the photos
- Nominate maggots to review the recommendations here (and in PR) and make decisions on which threads are worthy of HOF
Once there’s committee consensus on new entrants and those that shouldn't stay, the Gods and Goddess of Moderation can move the threads.
Other considerations
– there are certain threads that may be best left where they are? An example is the Betty Dee Girls Gone Wild thread (RIP Liz) that Klar bumps annually. Do we leave that in Trip Reports or move to HOF?
We can figure out the rest later
Ready? Nominate!
I'll start by nominating Abraham and IAS to the Review Committee

Why not just keep an index of reference-worthy threads (starting with your list) in the HOF? That way they can stay where they belong but be easily found.
Strummer goes Euro trash needs a nod.

Can't recall thread name atm...

The solly 99x thread is an incredible resource. As is the Mount Your Own thread.
Is the HOF for good technical reference, or just for epic stories and fights? I'm not sure.

The GSA thread is not only worthy, it's pretty much the GOAT. Hard to believe that was almost 10 years ago now. I still have a few stickers.

Link please
No one goes there anymore - it hasn't been updated for a long time
It may be - please provide link
I'm not sure either. Good question for the collective
I'd be inclined to leave active threads (mounting, Solly) where they are but can be persuaded otherwise. Another question for the collective
Good idea - Link please
There's a couple of Tonghands threads in HOF already. Please provide links to any others you want to nominate
Link please
Great ideas here - keep it up

I like this idea. Maybe a thread with links to others could be a good way to do it. Most of the time I end up in the HOF it's searching for a post I remembered.
I don't really support removing threads without pics though. The writing and replys are still part of what makes them worth including. Bit rot, broken links, and archiving are part of the internet after all.
This seems like a hard one, I don't have an answer but I think about mags who've passed every year around the turn into fall.

You people read my mind.
Both of The Chronicles of Tedski and The Chronicles of DrWhat? (with Carlo Rossi) are the defining multi-thread html stories of our times.
I don’t want to know such a man.
The Upstates Thread is on its way, but if you move it no one will be able to find it.
The subject matter is hard enough to nail down.I still call it The Jake.

A closed to new posts sticky with links to HOF worthy threads. Annual vote for new additions?
The five TBS mentioned in the op are pretty funny.www.apriliaforum.com
"If the road You followed brought you to this,of what use was the road"?
"I have no idea what I am talking about but would be happy to share my biased opinions as fact on the matter. "

The idea of the Hall of Fame is to recognize greatness, but that recognition is lost if people can't find threads because they're in the HoF.
I kinda like the idea of leaving the threads where they are, but having a stickied/locked thread in the HoF with names/links. That way, when you think of a pantsuit, finding it is easy, just go to the sticky in the HoF and scan the list.
As the forum historian, Abraham is an obvious choice for the selection committee. I think Buster and iceman also have the elephant memory and old timer cred (though I am not sure about that otzi guy, I can't even properly spell his fucking name)."fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy

"Mag Down" threads in the HoF... I have mixed feelings on it and could be convinced either way.

Maybe split into a few posts by type and add links to nominees?
Epic TR's
Megathreads (RTTT, GSA)
Monster rants
Running memes ($37, Ogdens, Ranges? pole straps?)
Meltdowns (SkidOG's trip to Vail, the Grammy winner flameout)
Stories (papapoopski needs therapy and food, many from IAS)
Maggot down
Maggot UP
