Who Makes The Perfect Hardshell Ski Pants?
We have https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...hell-ski-pants but I am curious about the same thing for hardshells for inbounds use.
Wants:
- Hand pocket(s) for keys/wallet (personal preference)
- Thigh pocket(s) for beacon or other things
- Good Side vents
- Not bibs
- Durable (cuffs, zips, etc).
- Waterproof but lighter fabric - I don't need the burliest gore-tex ever made.
- Bright color (personal preference)
- Not a baggy freeride fit
I have been using some rab sharp edge pants made with Pertex Shield for the past 4 years that I love but they don't make them anymore and a zipper has finally died.
Any suggestions?

The Mammut Haldigrat is pretty close (they're shown as bibs on the site, but the bib part zips off if it's not your thing). I only have one season of mostly touring in mine so no super long term durability testing but so far so good.
Edit: the beacon pocket is in the removable bib part though. The main pants just have two hand pockets, but they're big.

Dunno if it's "hardshell" enough for you, but the TNF Brigandine pant I think meets most of your criteria. The fabric is kinda "soft" for some people's liking.

I'm a weekend warrior in California who runs hot, so its unfortunately more likely I will be shedding layers and sweating in the sun than dealing with chest deep powder. I find bibs too hot. If I lived somewhere cold and skied the deepest of deep days I am sure I would think differently.
The Mammut Haldigrat do look pretty much perfect with the option of a bib for cold days if I want it. Time to see if they fit me...

I don't think this answer is as cut n dry as in the question "which soft shell touring pant"
you know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's.
So something quite water n wind proof, pockets that will carry lunch or a beer are cooler than you think
but the reality is you are gona be close to heat & shelter at a skihill so it doesnt matter that much
Also keep i mind that black is a slimming colorLast edited by XXX-er; 10-03-2021 at 08:58 PM.

Unless the pocket setup has changed recently, flylow makes several models that will likely fit your criteria, though the thigh/cargo pocket may not be the beacon pocket you are looking for.

Best pants I've owned: Flylow Compound. Purchased last year. Their equivalent pant for this year appears to be called the Cage.

Good to know. Thanks. Apparently I missed them on their website cause a) they're now $500; and b) they added a removable bib: https://flylowgear.com/collections/m...s/compound-bib

I've consistently heard great things about the Chemicals and they're on sale at BC (https://www.backcountry.com/flylow-chemical-pant-mens) so I just picked up a pair. Planning to use them at Whistler this season.

I've been following this thread because I was looking for new pants and your list of requirements is pretty much exactly like mine.
I just ordered these Helly Hansen Garibaldi pants. They seem to be some sort of textured fabric, I don't know if I'll like it or not. These HH Infinity looked better, but at $550 it was too much $ for my taste.
