I bet that Ikon pass sales are up as well. Some combination of these factors:
- pent up demand
- more flexible pass products
- marketing machine continues to drive awareness
I’m psyched to have jumped ship to a boyne resort. I’m optimistic that crowding won’t be too bad as they are limiting pass sales and requiring reservations for Ikonics

Well.. Fuck... If every place wasn't crowded last year...
You’re welcome!
Those of us who skied last year know we were the actual winners. 600” year at Stevens and the reservation system favored pass holders. I got every day I wanted. And the slopes were nowhere near busy on weekends.
In comparison, this season may seem like a madhouse. But it’s going to be another La Niña, so what’s not to be stoked about?
See you at Stevens…ask for change. In constant pursuit of the perfect slarve...

VPR did a piece yesterday about staffing at VT ski areas. It was mentioned that vaccine requirements were a way to convince potential hires that it would be safe to work there. That seemed to be the driving force behind the requirements. They were even talking about paying resort employees more. Pretty sure having to deal with obnoxious rich slobs will remain part of the job description though.

Maybe this will draw traffic to Stowe and away from Sugarbush?
No, wait.....it'll all be a total shitshow.

Maybe a five minute wait at my local ski area on a weekend powder day. Season pass was $355 early season.

Trails could be a bit more crowded, but at least the lines will be shorter . From a link in that article:
Stowe Mountain Resort, Mountain Lift: The replacement and extension of the existing fixed-grip triple to a high-speed 6-person lift will increase uphill capacity by 100%, eliminate the steep hike to the base of the lift, improve reliability on windy days and offer beginner and intermediate guests with better access to lower-level terrain choices.

Who are these “skiers” that ski on weekends?

What if you tour on weekends to avoid the crowds at the lifts?

That’s fine, if you have too. It’s not an issue here.
I tour when I want too. Mostly when the lifts aren’t running or leaving from the top, for slack country laps.

Not sure if serious...
On that last part, I wonder if it's some protectionism by the local resort or just a savvy revenue move by IKON?
Of the former, it's a great way to keep the IKON horde at bay, and I'm one. As to the latter; it's a great way to sell a lot of passes, but restrict usage of some resorts, thereby increasing profit by disallowing skiing at those areas. JHMR is also doing this, much to my chagrin.

I used my Ikon at Snoqualmie and Alpental (Boyne owned) last year on weekends and had to make reservations. It never showed up as "full" and I am not sure they were actually restricting numbers in any way. It seemed it was just a hoop to jump through.
Counter that to Ikon owned Crystal, which had COVID reservations for everyone and weekends filled up a month before you intended to go.

I seem to recall the Epic pass sales were up around 30% last year over the previous year.

Usually my plan. I work weekends and when I’m off I’ll tour, one lift ride and return at the end of the day.

Some of us live 12 miles from the hill and work weekends so we can ski more and still avoid the weekend. We all make sacrifices.

Some of us bloviate about what amazing decisions we've made in our lives so we can sneer down on those who didn't.
