As a golfer who used to be addicted to the game

I would suggest you become a member of a local corse and join the men’s/ women’s club
Get a handicap and compete in tournaments

    It’s a beautiful thing
I live in Westchester and it is pretty expensive to join a club around here.
The cheapest (decent) one we found was 35K initiation, 10K bond and a grand a month.
So... I'll have to stay as a muni girl for a while.

I needed a handicap to play Old Course.
    My current index is 19.

    Obviously I'm not a golfer.

But they looked really cool. And your enthusiasm was infectious. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe it’s different in NY, but just about every muni that I’ve golfed at has a men’s/women’s club. You don’t need to join a private club to get involved in that.

I saw some in Connecticut muni courses.
But the problem is a lot of them happen during the week and I’m always short with vacation time.
    I need 6 week vacation a year!!

On your next awesome golf trip across the pond, you should consider going a little more "upcountry". Have you by chance red the book by Tom Coyle, A Course Called Ireland? A funny read if your a golfer with great insight to off the beaten track courses.

There are handful of things I would do differently next time.

    - Now that we been to Scotland once, we won't hire an agency.
    We kinda understand the system.

    - We would rent a car and drive around ourselves.
It is bit scary to drive on the left side, but I think we'll manage.

    - We want to explore outside of St Andrews.
Gleneagles, Royal Dornoch, Muirfield, North Berwick, Castle Stuart, Cruden Bay...
There are so many courses we want to check out.
(yes, I read "A Course Called Scotland" along with "A Course Called Ireland" and "A Course Called America". Love Tom Coyne!!)

    - We wouldn’t stay at as nice of a hotel as Old Course Hotel.
It was nice to stay at somewhere that beautiful but we never stayed in the room long enough to really enjoy it.
All we need was a clean & comfy bed and shower.
We would much rather pay 2/3 or half of what we paid per night.

    - I would bring at least one decent summer dress with a pair of sandals.
I felt like a savage going around beautiful dining places in my golf clothes or jeans, t-shirt and hoodie.

Before we return to Scotland, there's Ireland to explore.
    2022, Ireland here we come!

Also not a golfer, and that was an entirely enjoyable TR. As Danno rightly said, your enthusiasm is infectous (though that saying now feels weird to say in this day and age haha). Thanks for taking the time to post that up Nutmeg!

    Killer TR Choi.

I don't golf, have never golfed, likely will never golf, but I still really enjoyed your stoke and pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Killer TR, and I'm super jealous of that trip! Maybe I can convince my wife that we need a vacation in Scotland, and take a few days for myself for golf while she visits castles.....

Bravo, golf clap, ovation worthy, brilliant abundance.
    Thanks for sharing.

My grandfather, born in Campbeltown, lived in Paisley, was a fanatic.

Relatives ran 'the' taxi and hearse company in Glasgow, whom I visited in 1979. I hitchhiked from there up past Oban and Fort William after visiting the Kintyre and Campbeltown. Spent a few nights under a tarp in Portree on Skye reading Gravity's Rainbow en route to Jon O'Groats before I stalled out on the flats North of Mallaig and turned around.

I don't golf or know anything about it, but Scotland sure looks like a cool place to do it.

I don't golf either - but that was very enjoyable!

I do love Scotland though - and these pictures made me miss traveling. And made me hungry and thirsty. Whisky distillery with cats might as well be heaven on earth for me - I'm adding that place to my list to visit next time I am there.

Driving on the left is both doable and scary - best to always have a wingman/wingwoman in the passenger seat to remind you which way to look before turning/merging. The traffic circles/roundabouts are where it really gets interesting....

    Great TR.
