Rob Schneider's on tour and had some great things to say about his buddy, Norm. You can tell it's hitting him hard:

thats a pretty damn good Norm impression by Schneider^^^

Fucking Norm man. Every waking minute of the last few days I've been replaying his jokes or just some shit he said over in my head and it always results in a chuckle or smile. I must look like a fucking psychopath walking around cracking myself up all the time but I just can't help it. The man was a fucking genius.

And how stoic was he in keeping his health situation private. Rare nowadays, especially for someone in the public eye.

Sadly, I am only realizing how much I dug someone after they passed and not while they were alive. Very cool dude.

A lazy tune on the irony meter will wake you up quick watching Norm. I kinda wonder if some of his edgiest stuff gets more benefit of the doubt now?

Reminds me of the Bob Einstein CICGC where he tells about all the famous comedians doing their acts at his dad's funeral. Seems like other comedians doing Norm's material would be a sendoff he'd appreciate.

The Bob Einstein piece of this is such a classic:

A woman came up to me and said "I'd like to poison your mind
with wrong ideas that appeal to you, though I am not unkind."

I always forget about that one following so close after the episode "It's Great Garry Shandling Is Still Alive." Which I remember watching back when it was on the website and hearing about Shandling's death really shortly after. I wasn't checking in there regularly, so it might have even been like a week later. Really eerie. Always makes me think Jerry is trying to document some of these guys before they're gone (a few very obviously, of course).

I believe this one has already been posted, but it takes on a different flavor in animated form:

Oh man, yes. Bob was a master of delivering shocked outrage, so I think he understood it, too, and Letterman walking off with "I'm never coming back, Norm!" was too funny to be genuine, but he definitely caught more than not. The episode of his latest with Jane Fonda put a really well-executed twist on the whole thing--credit to her for catching him out, maybe.

Also interesting to me he grew up in Quebec but was not French Canadien.

Stern told a story this morning about Norm getting in trouble on his show for some "me too" comments and then going on the View to apologize and getting in more trouble for a Down's Syndrome joke.

Looking for the audio but haven't found it yet.

Either way, I'm sure his intentions were good and folks just weren't on his level.

This is a good interview from 2011. I learned a lot about him. He truly didn't give a fuck. There's an awesome story and chat about Rodney Dangerfield, and it gets pretty creepy/prescient at the end with talk of death and God, especially since he may have been diagnosed at that point.

Great blog post by Malcom Gladwell on why he thinks Norm sucks and why his opinion shouldn't matter. This should be posted in the vaccine thread too. Well done, MG.

Norm would give a fuck what Malcolm thought. Not in a mean way, it's just that it wouldn't matter to him.

He went bankrupt three times from gambling. Like, totally wiped out.
