    Aftermarket cell phone batteries

I'm looking for a replacement battery for my old cheap ass Samsung. OEM is not available. There seem to be a bunch of companies, or maybe a company with a bunch of names, selling replacements. All the batteries have a lot of great reviews and a few ""don't buy this"--like pretty much anything you buy on line. A search for tech reviews of batteries came up empty, probably because they're too cheap to worry about. Any insights on finding an aftermarket battery that works, or is it a crap shoot?

If it is old as ass, why not just get a new phone? Which carrier are you on?

Went down this rabbit hole last year - generally speaking best bet for aftermarket batteries is from iFixit, assuming they have one for your phone.

Stuff you can find on Amazon, Flebay and Ali tend to be real shotty quality and could potentially fry your PCBA.

Lastly, there are some cases that have an external battery pack on them, which is a low-tech option.

So you are talking about the internal factory battery not being available and you are buying another brand of battery for the phone? (In which case you have to open the phone and remove the now bad factory battery and install the 3rd party battery?) Or are you talking about the Morphie or similar batteries that are auxiliary add on batteries? Or one of the battery booster packs out there that offer a charging supplement instead of plugging the phone into a charger and AC or using a cord and charging port in a vehicle?

If it is the first, how old is this phone, there should be Samsung branded and part number batteries out there unless you have a real unicorn.
