I know a guy who beat the freeze. It was awesome, I was at least 4 ballpark beers in screaming at him from the right field corner as he crossed the finish line.

The Freeze is fast as fuck.

I was about .23 slower than him in the 100m based on college times. How much of a head start for being old?

Measurement in Google Earth turns up roughly 170 meters.
I think that is why you see so many fail. They are decent the first 100m and then fall off quickly the last 70.

Looks like most runners get a 4 second head start. If you figure he's running around a 22 second 200m pace, I figure you'd have to keep up a 27 second 200m pace to beat him (since he doesn't have the last 30 meters to make up all 4 seconds of head start).

His top collegiate 200 time is 1.2 seconds faster than mine and I was faster than him in the 400.
At my medium age, I might be able to pull it off with a 4 second head start but more likely my hamstring would probably explode at the 150m mark and I'd be embarrassed

This brings up a good point, I don't think I've ever seen someone go down mid sprint like they were shot from the upper deck.

I never cracked the 22 second barrier. 23.8 I think was my best. I'd blow out either my lower back or a hammy (probably both along with a groin) before I hit 100 meters. Maybe if I paced myself, my hammy would give out at 150, and then try and crash and burn over the finish line...

Imma say I can still beat 27 seconds. Maybe a year ago I spent a significant amount of time doing speed training with my high-school age soccer-playing daughter for "fun", so I had a good sense of what I could do then. Granted, at my age you can lose a lot of fitness in a year, but I'm going say I can still get it done.

I'm guessing our college track mags can smoke that still if they are still out there running at speed now and then.

Actually, now that I think of it, I ran 100/400 hurdles so I might do even better in the chaos of the HD Bucket race...
