I got $20 says it wasn't actually piss Bear was drinking. The show's pretty neat, but it is spectacularly staged.

Definitely suspect.... or, for such a fit dude, he sure is bad at staying hydrated.

The bee sting remains as my favorite Bear moment.

Trails where California family died closed to the public
    https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-...to-the-public/

Not really much new. Still waiting for toxicology. The article says this about toxic algae:
Pen said one water test has come back positive for harmful algae bloom. Others have turned up no toxic substances and still other tests are outstanding. Officials had already warned hikers of such blooms a month before the deaths along the south fork of the Merced River, so that result is not a surprise. Such freshwater blooms are not known to kill humans.

Mysterious death of entire family while hiking

I read a recent article where they referenced the family potentially trying to treat the water. I’ll try to fond that article again.
It seems like that would be more obvious with investigators being able to test the water filter device but I don’t think I’ve seen any definitive reference to them carrying water treatment system in any other articles. but maybe I skimmed over
    it’s all just so spooky

Are you saying the family and dog were trampled to death? That might check out!

"Such fresh water blooms are not known to kill people". While they can cause serious illness the symptoms are obvious and very messy - don't recall any reports of explosive diarrhea and vomit puddles. Chances of algal cause: nil.

    Sad story.

Wouldn't lightning leave burns? Was there even thunderstorms that day?

Wouldn't it be odd for it to kill all of them? Lots of people survive lightning strikes.

And what about the woman who was further away from the group? Would the same strike get her?

Yes to all that. There’s no way it was lightning. I thought it weird it even got put out there as plausible

Has the toxicity report come out yet? If that comes up empty, we're left with death ray from outer space.

It doesn't have to be a direct strike to kill you, it can travel through the ground.

Was there even thunderstorms that day?
There's an app for that, I would think investigators would see if that was true before investigating.

Wouldn't it be odd for it to kill all of them? Lots of people survive lightning strikes.
The whole mystery is what odd thing killed them, so yes it's odd but possible.

And what about the woman who was further away from the group? Would the same strike get her?
Yes the same strike could get her if travelled through the ground. But how do you know they all died instantaneously apart or they were together and the woman had time to walk away from the group before dying? Or was she always far away from them? Who knows.

Murder/suicide by some sort of poisoning seems the most likely scenario to me at this point, dog included.

Toxicology report is going to be big news whenever it is released.

More probable that someone swapped their Fentanyl for straight Gatorade and they died from withdrawal. Brilliant really. Won't show up on the toxicology report.

They were city kids, probably saw the pretty river and went for a dip.

"Toxic algae test results are in after mysterious deaths of California family while hiking.

Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese, in a monthly update last week, said some test results from recent water samples there came back showing “high levels” of anatoxin-a, but that investigators are “not saying” that’s what killed Mariposa residents John Gerrish, Ellen Chung, their daughter, Miju, and family dog, Oski.

Anatoxin-a, sometimes called Very Fast Death Factor, is produced by cyanobacteria caused by harmful algae blooms.

“The signs of toxicity were mostly neurologic,” the U.S Environmental Protection Agency wrote in a report about the health effects of anatoxin-a, “with deaths due to respiratory paralysis. ... In oral toxicity studies, animals demonstrated acute clinical signs of neurotoxicity such as loss of coordination, muscular twitching and death from respiratory paralysis within several minutes of exposure.”

Wouldn't need any actual empirical evidence to prove, right?

    So sure. Why not.
