The dog in the photo isn't a shiba. It isn't even their dog, just a body double. There was no suicide component. Their true shiba is in the wind.

Villeneuve is planning to make two movies though, and the first one clocks in at 2:35. I thought Blade Runner 2049 was great; I'm moderately hopeful that his Dune movies will at least be good movies based on Dune even if they don't turn out to be 100% faithful to the source material.

Good news is, the bar is set spectacularly low after the first two film adaptations. Although the soundtrack to the Lynch version by Toto was pretty solid.

I'm holding out hope. At least I think there's a greater likelihood of a positive outcome from Villeneuve tackling some difficult subject matter than seeing a plausible explanation of this family's untimely demise.
