I had this quoted and replied, "You have a way with words, you should have been an English Lit major" and then deleted because i didn't think it was that funny.

My neighbor, who went ballistic on the snowplow at 5am, is an er doc. His “wonderful” schedule meant he’d been asleep for 30 minutes by then.

I feel old. Talking to strangers on the internet wasn’t an option. I kinda feel jipped. And I believe I’m spelling that wrong. Now I feel dumb too.

This should be it’s own thread but……

I strongly believe that the American mentality of “you need to go to college or you’re screwed” that parents and educators have been pushing for 30+ years is going to completely fuck our economy.

Many of the ER docs I know are sick and tired of same old same old dealing with pain med seekers, entitled douchebags and lately COVID19. Even the flexible schedule and the generous remuneration doesn't overcome the jadedness.

But what the hell, I went to a librul arts kollegge.

It will be a combination of both. Our infrastructure is crumbling faster than we are willing or able to fix it. The labor force to fix it doesn't exist within our borders. Add a dose of anti-immigrant red hat build the wall chants and the downward spiral spins right on its way.

I haven't run the numbers in over a decade, but we in the office figured out that a union ironworker in CA starting out of high school ultimately makes more money by age 65 on their career path than a ER Doc that paid their own way through college. That is assuming the ironworker is competent enough to progress to a foreman and then superintendent, as well as being good enough to work 2,000 hours a year and not get injured.

    RE: bachelors degree in education

You know that James Webb Space Telescope that was just launched ? The dude it is named after had a bachelors degree in Education and went on to run NASA during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs.

How many of you bagging on education or liberal arts have sent rockets to the moon ?

I got nothing against people getting education degrees, or going into teaching. However, I haven’t seen any indication that that’s SYF’s plan. Let the boy figure it out on his own, I say.

Second day running when I'd rather be jacking off horses.

Or is it more proper to say "jacking horses off"? Maybe the world will never know.

I think "jacking off horses" is more correct, but I can't say it was ever covered in my English lit classes

Tell me where/how you changed the heading under Mazderati to "on to a five-year plan" and consider it done, except that it will likely be Jack A. Orseoff.

As a correct predicate in a sentence it would be "jacking horses off".

Doesn't it depend on what you think the function of "off" is in the expression "jack off"? Is "off" an adverb, or part of the verb "to jack off"?

Out of my depth here, my fancy English lit courses didn't cover grammar. The last grammar class I had was probably elementary school, then I learned some more by inference when I half-assedly studied French.

“Jack off” is the idiomatic phrase
imho, off correctly sticks with its partner & goes before horse

not a English Lit major tho, so looking forward to hearing the correct usage from TRG’s in-house lexicographer
