[MTB] - How hot do rear shocks get

Alright nerds - I am fixing to do some science on my mountain bike rear shock, and I was curious on what type of temp rise one could expect to see on a relatively average sized trail shock with a piggy back, after descending ~ 1500' of rough trail.

Obviously there are a shit ton of factors here: Shock volume, shock size, preload, pressures (internal and external).

but in general, could one expect to see... 25C, 50C, 75C rise?

It would be cool to see temps of shocks after a hard run using one of those flir thermal cameras you can get for your phone...

You talking air temp (in an air shock), oil temp, or shock body temp?

I've heard oil temps hit maybe 150F. Plenty of Pro DH guys monitor their shock temps.

That figure is eminently mutable, and is based on how much you would like to spend.

yeah I guess I was looking at it from an air can perspective for an airshock, since I am most curious on making some of my own air volume spacers and what temp ranges I'll need to accommodate for.

My super deluxe is solidly "hot as fuck" degrees after bike park laps. Like hard to hold a gloved hand on it for more than a couple seconds. #science
