There is a lot of speculation on whether the kid's family or one of the several cyclists is better connected or has deeper pockets. There was a lot of $$$ in those triathlon bikes. He didn't run over a pack of dirt baggers.
But what about the bike lanes?!!

Legit question: has the Texas governor outlawed bike lanes statewide ?

Bike lanes attract coal rollers like a moth to flame.

I googled one of those triathlon witnesses from the first FoxNews article...A real estate agent with 4 kids in 3 years, and a wife who is 40lbs overweight...Spends his weekends riding hundreds of miles/day behind the triathlon chicks while wife stays home with the kids....

inre edit: My first thoughts were, 'Given this is small-town Texas, Coal Rolling Teenager is prob either related to the cop somehow, or he's a standout HS athlete. Big oil, ranch, etc - could also be a factor'

It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

I've a few miles behind the wheel of LCVs. If you're going to last in the industry, best keep it legal. Some bicycle riders scary me. Mostly because if you don't respect the truck there will be very little left of you. Right or wrong you're still dead. Share the road.

Perfect example of why the sidewalk is usually more dangerous than the road.
