Tokyo Olympic Survive COVID Games 2021
Thread for the upcoming Olympics.
So far the heavily favored USWNT lost an opening round match 3-0 to Sweden.Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

These Olympics are the most obscene money grab by the incredibly corrupt IOC ever, and that's saying a lot, considering recent history. Fuck the Olympics. Which something like 85% of the Japanese are saying, too, btw, but in a much more polite way.

I mean, if the athletes are going to be putting a spotlight on racism, Japan is a good place to do it.

My family is 1/2 Japanese, so thought it would be cool to check out the opening ceremony this morning. 5 minutes in, changed the channel after the cringe version of ‘imagine’ and the boring dance around boxes. I’m a little pissed to that they include surfing, but lump Hawaii with the United States. Olympics are dead I guess.

History of surfing deeply rooted from ancient times within a sovereign kingdom’s culture. The only place this activity existed. Hawaiians graciously shared surfing with the world. Kingdom was illegally annexed by the United States. Prince Kalanianaole thrown in jail because of opposition to the annexation. He brought surfing to Santa Cruz and on to the world.
It’s a complicated issue, but the deeper aspects of surfing culture values respect. I completely respect those that shared their culture with us. It’s not just a sport to some of us, but borderline a spiritual way of life. This comes from a sovereign kingdom and should be regarded as such. Even though Jon Jon and all have no Hawaiian blood, they still are born of the land and should represent the islands, with the future hope of someone with Hawaiian ancestry takes their place.
TLDR: Hawaiians brought surfing to the world and the US annexation was total bullshit. They deserve credit for their culture.

Pretty sure all the sports were "borrowed" from the originating culture, so the surfing thing seems misplaced. The US treatment of Hawaii, on the other hand, checks out.

True. My main point is Hawaii was sovereign and illegally annexed and should not have it’s representatives under the US flag.

If it was not "illegally" annexed by the USA, it would have been "illegally" annexed by Japan. What about the polynesians "illegally" annexing it from the menehuene? Stupid argument

Dude it got a LOT better after that ghey "Imagine" rendition (got I hate Keith Urban) and the lame box dancing.
They had 1800 drones in coordinated flight above the stadium, in formation to make the earth and all lit up. Then they had a pretty cool pictogram thing where people played out all of the 50 different icons for each Olympic sport. They had a Kabuki thing (look it up) that was cool and they had a pretty intense jazz pianist kill it. The torch thing to close out is always awesome. You gave up before it got good.
and BTW, Hawaii is PART of the USA, so they didn't really "lump it in". Its, you know, the 50th US state. There isn't really an option to NOT "lump" Hawaii in with the USA. That ship kind of sailed about 60 years ago.

The Canadians brought hockey and Timmy Horton's to the world after the British stole it from the French after they stole it from the natives and that shit is spiritual too, eh?
