Is it really that bad? Like I said, I haven't spent a lot of time there but what I have it didn't seem as bad as other "destination" type places like say Durango, where I do spend a lot of time.

    Guess I didn't see it.

Housing has gone loco gringo in Salida. I mean... it's *not* as bad as Durango, but that's not really saying much.

Stand firm. Semi-interesting locations but with a shitty community is not a good exchange imho.

For $2.5M you can purchase what my sister describes as a tear down or complete gut and redo in an older Austin Westlake neighborhood (go Chaps!)... it was listed at 1.6M this morning. It's a nice lot and a quiet neighborhood.

I won't mind living around Texans, you pretty much know what you're getting.
It's these 212s and LA fucktards moving here that are moronic simpletons when it comes to life in the mountains.

The plan is to not live around anybody and limit my interactions with the local gentry to my monthly town run for flour, back bacon, hardtack, and supplies.

Sounds like Alaska might be right up your alley, then. Ever thought about checking that out?

AK was a non-starter with GF.

Hey, man... that town is ON the Arkansas River. And it's in the mountains. You gotta pay for that kinda shit.

Naw, man - town is high enough above the river for that not to be an issue. Also assisted by numerous dams upstream to control that shit...

More reason for $$$$ real estate.

Bummer. I love AK. Way up on my list too. Perhaps I'll have to save it for retirement as I still has billz to pay.
