Lahars and other phenomena that keep you up at night?

Real estate thread got me thinking. Who knew? Those things look scary. Blood raining down from the sky? Super volcanos? San Andreas? Flesh eating bacteria?

What's grinding your gears these days?

My addition: the growing(?) reluctance of acknowledging or the defiance of scientific research or science in general. I don't want my children to end up burning witches again.

I'm not too worried about volcanoes. I am worried about--
The looming end of democracy in the US.
Global warming, of course. Especially for my kids. and grandkids if there ever are any.
    More immediately--fire.
And a general sense of impending doom--but is that realistic or the anxiety of an old man afraid of his own shadow?
But I'll be ok as long as the safety bar is down.

Growing poverty in the US as a result of expansion of the gap between those that have and those that don't.
Constant political and populous attacks on social programs that prop up the impoverished.
    The drive to ignorance.

... and low flying panic attacks (solid ref Mofro)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately (who hasn’t) and actually had a dream last night where mobs were going around gathering up the .0001%ers and corporate CEOs, etc. Pretty wild, but unrealistic, because if something like that were to ever happen they’d have the resources to escape.

Little V changed jobs recently and the new gig will require on-site work presence beginning September, in San Francisco. This means commuting via BART from the East Bay. Doesn't keep me up at night, but when I do think of it, I feel uneasy, as there's been a significant uptick in violence in the Gay Area. That Junior's half Chinese makes her more of a target.

Having an aneurysm/stroke/seizure while driving my kids. It's highly unlikely, but I've seen three people have grand mals out of nowhere while in or immediately after driving a vehicle and it does make me worry.

    Garden variety existential dread.

My kids never knowing how cool I used to be.
