My female cattle dog occasionally lifts her leg to pee on walks. There is also a 100% chance if a dog is barking in a back yard or window that she will squat right in the middle of their grass to tell them who is boss. She knows she runs the show.
The male cattle dog just likes to pee on stuff. Leg up, leg down, doesn't matter. Don't know how he holds so much lol.

My 3.5 yo Dane never lifted his leg.
My 2.5 yo Dane lifts his leg to pee on the 3.5 yo’s pee spot while the older guy is actively streaming.

My curr sometimes lifts, other times not. I've read that it's related to environment/learning from others, that's it related to when he got fixed, and that it's a bred trait in hunting breads to not disturb a much grass/brush spooking game.
As long as he isn't pissing in the house I'm fine with it.

Yeah, we've been over this. You lay your junk on the sink edge, one foot on the backwall for maximum stability. At 67 lbs, that's doable.

I think they make something for that: https://www.amazon.com/Proud-Parent-.../dp/B07NV77T3N

The guy in the back was neutered at about 3.5 months, and didn't lift his leg until about 8 months. Then he didn't lift it again until he was over a year. From that point on he's always lifted except when he really has to go and doesn't want to waste time.
The girl in the foreground started lifting her leg (imitating him) around 6 months, and still does every single day.

It is very simply a matter of training Timberridge. The only way your dog is going to learn this is to teach him. Try to stay away from busy dog parks or streets. Take little Fido out to the country, drink lots of water, and show him the ways of the male dog. I'll bet within a few good 2 hour training sessions your little man-puppy will be lifting the leg like a veteran. Show him the ways Timber, show him!

My GSD lifted his leg until his hips went bad, then he squatted for rest of his life. Same for my husky. For older dogs, don't overlook the possibility of tender/sore/bad hips as to why they no longer raise their leg.

My 6 year old male does both. It seems to depend on his reason to pee: dumping bladder or marking/communicating with “friends.”

He looks SO SAD.
When we got our BC fixed he wore the CoS for exactly one day. We went out to eat and came home to him upstairs in a new closet we just had built, cone pressed as hard as possible against the fresh drywall to the point of being stuck, and when we pried him away we could see the tiniest little front teeth marks in the middle of the circle he imprinted in the fresh mud. He must have really wanted a taste.
It was so funny we never spackled over it.I still call it The Jake.
