    WTB/WTT: light mtb crank

Putting together an Esker Rowl for my wife and need a crank. Looking for something light to keep her overall build weight down - carbon would be great, but XTR would be great also. Needs to be able to fit a wider/modern bb shell.

I have a SRAM XO carbon crank with 28t and 32t rings and a 30mm spindle that is a bit to narrow for this with a pressfit Chris King BB that I would be willing to sell or trade. Would be great on an older xc bike or a gravel bike.

Or... If someone can help me figure out how to get the crank to fit the wider bb shell, I'm all ears.

    Thanks!

    Seth

You can just replace the spindle on that crank.

Cinch spindles fit onto SRAM 30mm cranks?

Semi thread jack- is there any way to swap spindles on older SRAM GXP 24/22mm cranks?

Yes, all SRAM 30 and Dub, Race Face , FSA, and S-Works all use the same interface.

GXP spindles are not removable. They are bonded to the Crank side arm.

I don't have both in front of me to check, but aren't the splines deeper on the RF DH spindles than on the XC ones?

Yes, the DH cranks are 1mm deeper each side.
The Raceface chart posted shows the DH spindle 2mm longer (vs the XC spindle) for the same BB width.

The spindle arrived yesterday. I pulled the cap from the non-drive side but the spindle is still really tight. Any suggestions on a good way to remove the spindle without damaging the arm?

Non drive side doesn't have the self extracting mechanism like the drive side does. Thread the bolt in about half way, find a way to support the arm, and hit the bolt head with a rubber mallet to break it free

    HAB/DH - Thanks!

This was the approach I was using last night but hadn't put it in a vice yet - just resting against my wooden work bench

Yeah, supporting the arm can be a little tricky. A piece of PVC pipe in the right diameter makes it really easy.

PVC was the ticket. Took a while, some penetrating oil and even some time in the freezer. Looked like some loctite red or other adhesive in there.

Everything swapped but how to get the plastic tension ring to bond to the new spindle?

Just some super glue. I replaced the plastic SRAM one with a nice CaneCreek one, and their instructions just say to super glue it on.
    CaneCreek Preloader
