I have a chair from the old Highline lift. Sadly, I may have to give it up soon. I'm sure someone here would gladly take it off my hands if it comes to that.

I think Ipe or black Walnut would look cool on it too. Sounds like it’s on a covered porch so any of the mentioned woulds, especially treated with a natural should last pretty long.

Ipe is awful wood. I'd gladly cut down the last tree standing and watch it go extinct with a smile on my face.

Your guys suggestions for how to "badge" this chair? Was thinking just going on Etsy and getting a small brass plaque engraved with the couples names and their wedding date. Like,
"John and Sue
9/4/21"
And then attaching that to the wooden seat somewhere.
Can't think of anything better....but it also kind of reminds me of a "memorial bench" plaque.

Carved in the seat like some derelict from back in the day would have done.

Maybe try a local trophy shop? I think they engrave the plague, but the actual trophy is bought in bulk.

You should just spray stencil "9/4" for the chair number. Keep it simple. It'd be cute AF.
How's the paint look?

Where are you going to put it? I like the simple 9/4 but I don't see a great place to have it centered. So the initials might balance it out.
Why not have the powdercoater do it? They have the proper equipment.

On the back or high on the center pole. Classy. I do want to see how it turns out. Awesome gift.

That seat wood has history and still looks decent, has to be ways to preserve.

Shoulda bought the whole lift. If you friends don’t have a place for a lift then you need better friends. Cheap bastard. I hope for your sake that they don’t think the chair is a token that means you did in fact buy a lift but wanted something they could unwrap at the reception.
JK obv, I think I mentioned upthread but: rad.

Another idea for the wood - I hacked up some old skis and used them to make the seat on mine. Came out awesome.

Got it back from powdercoat two days ago. They forgot to chop the "stem" part down. Oh well. Too lake to fuck with it now.
I cut new pieces for the seat from Alder and hand finished/rounded the edges to make it look more "original". Teak oil finish and new SS hardware.
I wanted the wedding date to look retro so I put it where the original chair number was (now gone under the powder coat) and I did with with a stencil to be incognito and look like lift ops sprayed it on there. Really happy with how it turned out.
