It was 4pm. I was dragging ass as the 2 year old had been up since 5. Not an issue for me to sleep on caffeine when chronically sleep deprived.

Fair enough. I don't have kids so didn't think about how they would affect things. Looks tasty!

My summer cocktail of this summer has been 3 fingers of genepe over ice topped with lime juice, topo chico, and mint. So floral and refreshing.

    Try this:

    The Irish Maid

    2 1/4" slices of cucumber
    2 oz Irish whiskey
    .75 oz lemon
    .5 St Germain
    .5 simple

Muddle the cucumber, shake everything else, serve on a rock. Delicious summer drinking.

A couple thoughts on Negronis and variations.
I find Bruto Americano significantly better in Mezcal Negronis than Campari.
In a gin Negroni, a substitution of a split Amaro Nonino/Aperol for Campari is so excellent. An equal split is a good starting point, I prefer more Nonino to Aperol.
If you're using Antica at home you owe it to yourself to try a Negroni with Spanish vermut.

In the same vein, a quarter oz of Aperol in a margarita is a welcome addition. Pierre Ferrand curaçao over Cointreau all day.

This summer, we have been crushing frosé at home. I always turned my nose up at the concept when out but was asked to make some for a party and now really enjoy a glass after being in the heat.

Since it's full on watermelons right now, here is my recipe for watermelon frosé.

Start with a killer melon. If possible, you want one grown down the shore that you bought first thing in the morning from the back of a pickup, horse trailer, or similar environs.
Remove rind, cube innards, and toss cubes with salt. Place salted melon in a strainer over a bowl to catch the juice. Refrigerate the whole mess and let sit overnight.

Peel limes with as little pith as possible. Toss peels with enough sugar to coat. Vacuum seal, plastic bag, or place peel/sugar mix in small jar on countertop overnight. Save limes.

Next morning, mix lime peels, sugar, lime oils, and juice strained from melon in a small pot. Bring to a simmer and dissolve sugar, remove from heat and strain peels. Chill or don't, whatever.

Purée watermelon solids. Remove from blender.

In blender, mix 75cl bottle of rosé, (the rest is to taste, the measurements are an approx. starting point.) juice of two limes, a cup of watermelon purée, and a few oz syrup from two steps above. Blend.

I've read you want a darker rosé, AVV has been on sale for $14 all summer so that's what we have been using.

Freeze mixture. When you come inside from any activity, remove what you want and blend again for texture.

I am picking up peaches this week to start a shrub for Fish House Punch. I will report back in September once that gets underway.

Tgapp, have you made this with gin rather than whiskey? I feel like it would also be tasty...

Ghost, I feel like you might dig Morgenthaler's frozen negroni. It's been a while since I've made and enjoyed one but they're delish: https://jeffreymorgenthaler.com/blended-negroni/

The same drink with gin rather than whiskey is a hot Charlotte (you add hot sauce as well) - recipe is up thread a bit.

That blended negroni sounds fucking amazing. Gonna make that (but with st George subbed for the camp) tomorrow

After much testing, I think my favorite traditional margarita recipe is 1 part lime juice, 2 parts countreau 3 parts Costco anejo tequila. My overall favorite is 1 part lime juice, 1 part ancho Chile liquor, 1 part gran mariner, 3 parts Costco anejo tequila.

For the price, I haven’t found anything I like better than the Costco anejo. Although occasionally the crispness of a blanco is nice, especially on a hot day.

Ah, nice. I'll have to give it a try. Curious to hear your thoughts on the blended negroni!

I've got my Painkiller cup ready:

Love me some Mt. Gay, but for painkillers, it has to be Pussers.

And I've always found that the best painkiller was at Saba Rock across from Bitter End YC.

Coco Lopez is great, but if I have the time, I prefer making my own.

I love the flavor of Pusser's in a painkiller but I've been making them lately with Plantation OFTD and I really like that rum a ton in them. It's so good.

@neufox - the obvious recommendation is an espresso martini:

    1.5 vodka
    1 chocolate liqueur
    1 shot espresso
    1 kahlua

garnish rim with chocolate syrup and use coffee bean for garnish

or, an Alexander, which is super classic: equal parts brandy, cream, chocolate liqueur, stir, serve up

you can replace the brandy for another brown spirit of choice - my favorite way to do this drink is with rum diplomatico, which is a fortified (sweetened) rum that just makes an incredibly decadent, sweet, drink.

or, finally, a challenge accepted, which is very complex and very desserty:

    1.5 fernet
    1.25 chocolate
    1/2 luxardo
    1/2 tuaca

    stir, neat

Last week, I had one of the finest Perfect Manhattan's (with HW Rendezvous Rye) at J Bar. Simply Devine!
