If you want to see Lost Coast, recommend access at Petrolia. There’s a campground at mouth of Mattole River, and you will drive past the westernmost point in the continental US.
I found the kings range (northern) portion of the lost coast (huge continuous beach) to be very different than sinkyone (southern) portion (forest bluffs with small sandy coves). Both are really cool. I remember that road being exposed and slow, but it’s passable. Maybe that’s changed…

Just down and around the corner to the right is the Enclosure couloir which is a little more protected from rockfall. But fuck the Valhalla Traverse, freaks me out.

+100. Pretty scary back there. Met a few guys at the lower saddle who said that BIC was like a bowling alley. Yikes.

For some reason I can picture a road trip with some of you going something along the lines of this. Haha:

And with any luck, there's a storm brewing. Incredible lightning shows out there occasionally.
Not to mention a pit stop at Wind River Brewery to quench ones thirst for the final push.

I got the Obligatory Pinedale speeding ticket on my very first drive up to JH. Rolling in from Denver for a job interview. As a Tram operator. May 1990...

Agreed, that Wind River brewery is a godsend for the last lap. I've ridden the motobike down just for a beer and back. Man, you can fucking rocket on those flats between Daniel jct. and Bondurant.

I just have to say if you’ve never done PCH from Ft. Bragg to Muir Beach, then Pacifica to Santa Barbara, it’s kind of mandatory.

As you roll from Helena to the Swan Valley, stop in Ovando. Food at the Stray Bullet. Fishing advice from the Angler (I think you said you are fishing). Cool town that is on the Tour Divide bikepacking route.

From Crater Lake take OR62 and stop at Rogue River Gorge and Hidden Bridge and then head to Grants Pass and follow highway 199 to South Fork of Smith River. Detour from 199 to Howland Hills Road through old growth Redwood. You wont regret it. Maybe the rope swing is still there
