    Tongue tied infant?

I am not sure why am seeking info here but here we go....

Long and short of it our 7 week old cant latch on the boob and gets a lot of air while using the bottle. Just got it checked out and confirmed a tongue tie and significant lip tie.

Seems to be a trendy procedure... any success or horror stories?

Friends newborn had this done a week ago. Seemed to be a non issue; they described it as no more pain than an ear piercing.

I’d imagine your pediatrician will have better information than a bunch of dentists....

Our son had two ties, we had them seared off at ~6 weeks.
It seemed to help. He did nurse better and spit up less!

That's why I asked here as its the dentist that performs this procedure.

...Don't worry we have asked the pediatricians opinion.

Something might be trendy but if you got the scratch I say go for it.

I did the trendy helmet route on my newborn to fix a flat spot on the back of his head. It was kind of a pain but it worked, we could afford it, and I like to think even if it prevents just one embarrassing lunchtime bully episode I'll have no regrets.

Have you talked to a lactation consultant? Or more importantly, has your baby's momma talked to one. Cuz people think breast feeding is all naturally so it's supposed to work easily but it often doesn't and a pro can quickly identify opportunities for improvement that wouldn't occur to the average person.

Snip it and put em’ back the the boob immediately for soothing. Helped a bunch for us.

My daughter got the snip and it greatly improved both nursing and Mom’s happiness. She screamed for a few minutes and was good to go.

One of the most surprising things to me about having a newborn was that breastfeeding was incredibly difficult. I mean, I tried, but I just couldn't do it. :rimshot: Seriously, though, as a non-parent I always assumed that it was natural and easy, and I was surprised to discover how fucking hard it can be and doesn't always work.

^^^ I would have gone the lactation consultant initially, but issues with the bottle as well signal a different problem.

Didn't work for us. Formula for both. They seem healthy. 12 and soon to be 9. They can be little shits but for the most part are pretty good kids. Obviously mom's want to do it if they can that whole bonding thing. I did nearly all night feedings cause I can seemingly work on little to no sleep. I got plenty of closeness in those early times. I can't say either way if it would've been any different had they been breastfed.

    Fully agree with this.

Yep, Mrs Eluder has spent quite a bit of time with this one at the lactation specialist.

    I consult on the side.

Send some pics of what we’re working with here so I can assess.

According the book of Exodus, Moses was tongue tied. His brother Aaron had to speak for him. So the little one is in good company--unless you're a fan of Pharaonic Egypt.

Where does one educate to be one, preferably under 100k? Asking for a friend, obviously.

Which one is the asshole? Moses, Aaron, Pharoah, or Eluder;s kid? Surely not the kid?

I figure you probably mean Moses. You have a point--guy is tongue tied but gets to be played by Charlton damnyoualltohell Heston.
