Because Merlier is the stronger lead out man.

I realize the importance of a strong lead out, but Merlier is still a stronger sprinter. One would think a philipsen->mvp->merlier train could do pretty well.

30 green jersey pts a day is a tough sell for 18 credits when you need to average 500-800 a day to win this thing.

    I’ll take 30 points a day for a 8 pointer, but not for a 15-16 pointer, let alone a 18 pointer.
    Note to self: Sell Sagan.

I wish I had him in my roster to sell, instead I sneered at his high cost and have regretted it

Big congrats to Huckbucket with a 1000+ day. You were 70th in the world ranking today.
If you had Mohoric as your bonus you could have had 1,232 points, putting you 3rd in the World Ranking.
(-71 point you gained with Van Aert as your bonus, +285 with Mohoric as your bonus).

    Just for the record ...

On today's stage I also had 4 in the top 10. But more importantly, on GC I have all of the top 5 and 6 out of the top 10.

I’m a little panicky about how many changes I’ve made, even before the first rest day. If any of my guys crash out in week 2 or week 3 I’m fawked.

Great racing today. Who'd a thunk there'd be a 29 rider breakaway that included Mellow Johnny.
Tomorrow we see how strong the big freight-train teams are, particularly Roglic...

Looks Ineos is probably the only team that can freight-train in the mountains this year. Movistar is pretty strong, especially when Carapaz is riding off the front. Astana has some good climbers too but its been like nearly a decade since they've ridden in control on mountain stages. UAE and TJV were crap today.

I'll continue to bet against Ineos. Like herding cats and they're dinged up. I'll give you the fact that Carapaz rides with style but even with a man up to bridge to today he couldn't put time into TP. I'll also disagree with your UAE assessment. They shouldered the burden of driving the field the whole day so it's no surprise they were burned out at the end. My big bet is that with PR out of contention, others on JV (Kuss and Vingegaard) will have room to play. Vingegaard is up there on gc too. No way MVDP survives tomorrow with 3 cat 1 climbs in the last 50K. Goodbye WvA and Asgreen too.

    Will TP give gifts?
