Has the Grateful Dead become modern muzak?

Now that the world is opening, brewery hopping is a thing again. In every one we stopped in yesterday, the GD came on and played in the background. Nothing was live, all recordings from albums.

Is it just “edgy” enough to play American Beauty, Workingmans Dead, and Reckoning while still not offending anyone?

Who cares why they are paying it? They are playing it. Fantastic. I'd rather hear Red Rocks 78, but I'll take what I can get.

An old girlfriend's father worked for Muzak for years. I so wanted t-shirts and stickers, but, he knew what I was up to.

    Unrelated thread drift:
There are only two escalators in the entire state of Wyoming.
    That’s gotta mean...something...right?

And how many rotary traffic circles in Wyoming?

One that I know of. And it ain’t working that well.

I suspect the escalators are equally confusing

bout 10 years ago hanging out in a fairly generic bar in the city, not the place you would expect to hear the dead, but not surprising if you did. Look over at my buddy I used to lwork with in Aspen, about 45 at the time, total old school NYHC , shaved head, tats, may have been wearing a sick of it all T, hates any song over 3 minutes long, and he is singing along to "Fire on the Mountain "
I looked at him and said "Really?!?"
He says " cant help it man its been in the back ground for the last 25 years "

I remember being in a Denny's in the early 80's in Miami Beach and hearing Hot Tuna's Water Song, I had to stop eating my Grand Slam breakfast to make sure they were really playing Hot Tuna in Denny's. It may have been the last time I was in a Denny's
