Doesn't look like pacers are allowed there. Two thousand runners, after all. But their requirements are well beyond any ultra I was ever involved with, including Hardrock.

    Clickypoo Regulations and read Equipment:

I think Viva will know better, but while pacers are pretty common in US 100 milers, they're frequently not allowed in races outside the US (ie - UTMB, like Viva just posted).

Sad tragedy in China for sure.

We$tern does allow runners older than...65, I think, to have pacers the whole race.

Some folks like to have a pacer for shorter distance races (100K or 50 miles), when allowable, to push for a faster finishing time.

I paced at hundred milers three times more than the number I actually ran the damn things, myself.

Who was your friend and what year(s) did run run W$100? We may have run together.
Thanks. His first name is Ralph. As I recall, he ran in '93 & '94 (I lived in the Sac'to area from '91-'95). I met Gordy Ainsleigh through him & Gordy used to crack my back.

I remember once meeting Ralph at the end of a 50 miler (50K?) that ended in Folsom. Ralph is ADD and normally talks in a sluggish (almost stoner) pace. All of the other finishers were a mess. In contrast, this was the most lucid I've ever heard Ralph talk. Me? I'm a disaster

I ran 93. Melting snow in the high country, then 100+ temps. Very tough year. Do not recall meeting a Ralph, though.

Gordy gave me my first chiropractic treatment before the 94 race at the start in Squaw.

In a thread about 21 Chinese athletes dying (and dying in what must have been a pretty horrible and agonizing way), Benny thinks it a good time to make random criticisms of Chinese culture. I feel fine with my remarks.

And yes, I make other posts.

This place needs a thread on sarcasm detectors, irony meters and stud finders. Too many JONGs wandering in thinking they can just turn the damn thing on and let the factory settings tell them what they need to know. No need to check batteries, let alone learn how to use the device properly or know its limitations. They're a hazard to us all.

So is this a sarcastic joke? Or some manifest destiny blather?

Nope. What have they invented in the last century? Besides Maoism.

"invented" or stole the technology while studying overseas and claimed it as their own? I have/had friends in masters and doctoral programs that would not have anything to with the Chinese students in the programs due to intellectual theft.

I probably shouldn't bumping this racist thread, but I did find it odd that the government response to these deaths was to just outright ban Ultras.
