    Vegas

So, I just spent an afternoon/night in Vegas. First time since 1966. Stayed at the Venetian, which is right on the strip, as they call it.
I was appalled at the street scene. It's like a trash/ghetto parade/party. My cross the street radar went off a few times. I drove a cab in NYC in 1978, but I never saw so much concentrated freakiness and trash. Even leaving this morning we were nearly attacked by a very fat tattooed (bald head ink, too) man dragging a rolling suitcase in the middle of an intersection. He spit on my car window. He was very mad. I didn't take it personally, but, does that shit happen all the time there? What the fuck is going on? It's like where all the ghetto street dealers come to party and the felons in between time come to mingle with them. Gawd, everybody is ugly. Don't get me going about enormous African American women just, like, all out there. What the fuck?

The world is perfect. Appreciate the details.

    Popcorn ready.

FWIW, I am not a fan of Vegas. Best part about every trip there was hanging by the pool and running up the company tab On drinks served by Vegas 7s (ski town 12s) while I skipped out on conference sessions, which segued nicely into some pretty great meals for dinner.
I still call it The Jake.

Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.

Charles Grodin just died today. He was in a buddy movie with Deniro that was one of his best. Midnight Run.

But, yeah, maybe because it barely rains in Vegas? No cleansing?

All this shit began happening with the Great Chinese Communist Party Bat Shit Virus World-Wide Release Celebration over a year ago. The casinos experienced a hudge reduction in visitors, and revenue, so they began offering killa deals to folks within driving range (e.g., SoCal). Problem was, they were offering deals to folks who would normal patronize Circus Circus and and similar drecks. The upshot was that the Strip was overrun with thugs, gangstas, and other assorted little rascals. Things have improved markedly over the past several months, though.

I was thinking just that. That the best way to enjoy the town is to just stay by a pool, drink, and then eat, all on somebody else's tab. Uber to some other place, never walk.

They were smoking in the casinos. That was nice to be around.

Only been to Vegas few times for trade shows, not really my cup of tea but made the best of it. Enjoy hiking Red Rock and then hanging out at the pool more than anything.

    It was worse?

Speaking of thugs and gangstas, we're walking up to the elevator bank at the Venetian, and there's two African American "couples" getting into a car. Both ladies were at least 275 pounds, and barely dressed. One of the guys is slapping one of the girl's ass to, I guess, inspire her to get into the car a little quicker. We let that car go, waited for a fresh one.

Benny did you see my favorite street creature during your visit? A man dressed as a human sized rasta joint dreads and all, holding a giant 12" long fake joint, smoking a real joint. It was joints all the way down!

Pools and restaurants are the best part by far- really not a bad weekend if that is all you want to do with some people watching thrown in. Good hiking too- lots of petroglyphs. Strip reminds me of Bourbon Street- you have to look but only for a minute.

We camped in Vegas a couple years ago in one of the RV parks off the strip. Guy came up and started warning us that gansters would jump the wall into the park and steal anything that wasn't locked down. "And a few weeks ago they found a dead hooker stuffed in a storm drain across the street." Okaaayyy. We go to dinner, come back and the people camping next to us said they just had two nice mountain bikes ripped off their rack. We got the fuck outta there the next day. Good news is I did win $100 playing Blackjack at...wait for it...Circus Circus.

My last Vegas trip was to use up a flight credit. 40 hour trip including flights from SLC was just enough for me.

Walking down the sidewalk having a beer is actually kind of fun when you live in Utah.
