Yeah... that's kinda where I'm at.

Like those who aren't getting vaxxed because that want to wait and see how it goes I'm going to stay on the sidelines a little while longer.

I stopped bringing a hikes/mountain bike rides a while ago, restaurants will still be outdoor only for me though, and still having kids mask up at recess. Still hearing quite a few cases of elementary school kids through school or sports. My county is something close to 70% of adults vaccinated, figure if we can keep kids safe this summer with some minor precautions, hopefully stays that way

What I'm not hearing from the CDC today is:

Is this unmasking dependent on all people in the room being vaxxed?

Can you unmask with non-vaxxed people if they are masked?

What about the never vaxxers joining your vaxxed group without masks?

In the meantime our county is at High danger level, hospital is at 90% of capacity, elective surgeries are being postponed and we are expected to be the second most visited area in the country this summer.
Oh yea and the locals are less than 50% vaxxed
    I can’t fucking wait.

The recommendation only concerns the vaccinated without reference to the vaccination or mask status of others. To me that implies the CDC either doesn't think it matters or is assuming that the nonvaccinated will be masked. (No way they actually believe that.) Note that if you travel out of the country you need a negative test before you can board a return flight--even if you're vaccinated. (Variants anyone?) And the CDC's recommendations can be overruled by states and localities.

Only 35% of the country is vaxxed (yet the news tonight claimed "almost half of Americans are vaxxed").

I'm calling BS on this. The non-vaxxed will be shedding their masks with glee.

How stupid are these officials? They are all over the news saying this will be an incentive for people to get vaxxed. How? Why? They've wanted to shed their mask forever and now they can without looking conspicuous.

    Stupid.

Here’s what “your local epidemiologist” said about it
I don’t think removing a mask requirement will improve vaccine hesitancy in the US. Maybe a little, but nothing meaningful. I’m in the weeds with the community, wearing a mask doesn’t even land in the top 20 reasons people won’t get a vaccine.
This relies on an honor system, which will crumble. This puts the onus on businesses to endorse and enforce. And this will make masks even more politicized.
There are much smarter deimplementation strategies we could have gone with, like reaching the critical threshold of 59% and/or until every American has at least had an opportunity to get a vaccine and/or at least waited until transmission calmed down so this virus stops mutating. There are only 4 states with moderate transmission, 0 states with mild transmission.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we had another wave this summer
Someone should write a book about the implementation, de-implementation, and scientific communication downfalls of the US during a global pandemic
I’ll still be wearing my mask inside. For my daughters. For my best friend who is immunocompromised. And until we can get this beast under control. And once we get there, I’ll be the first to have a massive mask burning bonfire. Maybe I’m being too careful. Maybe I’m a sheep. But, quite frankly, I don’t care.
Bottom line: It was too soon. And, this should be interesting...

The Yankees just had 8 people (coaching staff, 1 player) test positive, though 7 of the 8 are asymptomatic. All 8 of them were fully vaccinated.

Maybe it’s just time to be done with it and let the anti-vax people catch COVID and live (or not) with the consequences. I get exhausted with them, and I got my vax, so fuck’em.

Ah...got it now. The vaccine doesn't work effectively. This probably answers the question also why some people aren't bothering to get it.
