Followed tracks for 4 days in a Bull only unit this week. Tough hunting. Swirling winds and tight timber. Hoping to get out somewhere next week with some glassing opportunities. Need to load the freezer bad.

Weather got warm and deer activity has slowed so we took out rage on the mallards. Two limits Saturday AM helped the stress management.

Back to deer as temps are expected to plummet this week.

Nope general season. In 35ish years of trying I’ve never drawn a controlled hunt.

    That's even more impressive!

I drew a buck tag in 44 in 2019 as a non-res, and Lowman in ~1983. I'll probably never draw again either. The odds are astronomical now. I'm going to try for a Salmon rut hunt the next few years, there is only 5 tags.

I drew Late 48 buck....don't give up the dream. Only took me ~12 years.

Can y’all send some birds down south? Time to do the snow dances. Ducks are stale and loafing on the rest ponds, or just not here.

Made WROD turns in the morning, shot forky freezer buck at sundown. A great Montana day. Only saw does and small bucks from my stand this season. Been unusually warm and dry around here.

    Nice work yeahman.

Got into them yesterday AM. Spotted a herd about 1 mile away at 8500'. We got over there fast, but the wind was swirling again.....fucker. I don't think I have hunted once during rifle this year without the wind totally switching direction multiple times and never "settling" into the expected thermal updrafts.

Nice work! First MT lift served ski day and venison. I am looking at making tag sandwiches this year.

After the boil since I didn’t post a field photo. Don’t laugh, my wife loves to paint them.

Yeah it's been a tough year in SWMT. Glad I got a buck opening morning, but haven't seen an elk closer than 1 mile away the rest of the season.

Was at the processor today picking up some pork fat and the guy told me they usually take in 120-150 elk opening weekend, this year only 20 and it really hasn't picked up. Said it was the worst season he's ever seen FWIW. I'm gonna give it one more shot though. Maybe Wednesday if it snows Tuesday night.

Couple from last week with my wife. We've been into cows several times but no legal bulls spotted. They really clamped down on the either sex districts this year. Gotta pay more attention to B tag deadlines next season!
