It's starting to (somewhat) level out. Still hard to find good hunting rounds, found 4 boxes of the .302 trophy copper from Federal this summer. Stocked up on a case of shotgun shells for waterfowl, sitting on about 2. tough market, but lots of 5.56 and 9mm around now at somewhat reasonable prices.

Utah is looking to go draw for the general season any bull and any spike elk units: https://wildlife.utah.gov/feedback.html

In 2018 they sold all of the OTC tags in 36 days, this year they sold out in 10 hours, even after an increase in tags. I know it's a similar story all over the west.

Yeah, comments for the central region in by tomorrow. Tough call here. More bandwith or IT support on their end could fix that pretty easy. 10 hours is a long time to get tags, or one could simply go to a tag location and buy in person. Also don't love the 60/40 split on LE Tags to max point holders. but at least they are trying.

Yeah the 60/40 thing.......but, ugh, there is no way to un-fuck the bonus point system now. I hope Idaho pays attention and never flirts with it. Randy Newburg did a podcast on point creep and had the clearest explanation of it I had heard.

Shot this guy this morning. Missed him on Monday while he was chasing a doe around the field. Happy he came back around today so I could redeem my self. Strange little antlers though.

Nice! Solid work around here. Trying to get out for Muzzy elk, but may just wait until my late season Cow tag come 12/1.

Got 3 boxes of 180g coming. 2 lead, 1 copper. Midway @ the right time. & New DNZ mount, for the new glass! Thanks. I used a giant lactose fart, and some weed to locate the herd last night after dark. Congratulations on your muley.

Very slow morning, was walking out along the river and these guys were just hanging out. 2 3/4 3’s required a fairly high cost per pound ratio to get them done, but excited to whip up some pastrami soon. Coot got caught in the crossfire, may actually try to cook it and see what all the fuss is about.

Just cleaned those birds, and took the coot breasts, got all the fat off and did them in a cast iron with EVOO, S/P/G, dash of paprika, and they were fantastic, lighter than mallard but with a little more depth to the flavor. I don't know what the fuss is about with them being garbage. I will be shooting them from here on out. Worst case they get added to the sausage pile.
*disclaimer, this was shot on a river, not in a swap, so will have to verify difference.

Fun few days fucking around in central MT. Deer were hunkered in pretty tight with the high pressure, had a couple subpar chances but passed. Got into a lot of pheasants though. Buddy's new dog catches on real quick.

^that looks like a rad trip.

P, you should have mounted that coot, maybe running, wings out?

My tag just started last night. Passed on a magnum 3x3 which I might regret. I love really big 3's. Plenty of time left though. My buddy, who also has the tag, shot a whacker this morning.... Probably a 170 or 180" Buck.

If you ever have the opportunity to hunt mule deer during the rut, I highly recommend it. Entirely different game... We probably saw 40 deer last night in one sitting.

I would have, but the feet creep me out too much. The mule deer rut is great, we're lucky to get it with the extended archery down here. A great way to see bucks you may have never seen otherwise.
Went duck hunting with a photog buddy the other day.

Those are the Caldwell E-Max Shadows. So far so good, I used to run walker muffs, these are a little more comfy.

I think you told me that you don’t use these for walking around? Too artificial sounding?

I took a couple of shots yesterday hunting grouse and the shotgun doesn’t seem nearly as bad as my rifle, but curious what’s out there.

Yep, I wouldn’t want to wear them deer or elk hunting, birds wouldn’t be too bad, you definitely are t keyed in to sound direction with them in.
