He’s a pedantic troll. (Who apparently fancies that he knows “all about everything”)
Who probably hasn’t driven/towed 1/2 as much shit as many of us have.

None of this makes any sense. Most vehicles out there never see 250,000 miles, and they get brake jobs all the time.
That is in flat places like here.
Who TF gets 250,000 miles out of their OG rotors and pads? Tommy Boy would go broke.

It all comes back to the return air ducts.

Highly doubtful that you even know how to drive a stick, Mr. 250,000 mile guy.
Your own words give away your lack of experience.

HA's techniques are correct, trailer brake should start ever so slightly before the truck, especislly if its wet or slippery . Things go sideways and that can straighten things out. A lot of times you smell semi truck brakes its coming from their trailers. They only own the truck so they yank on the trailer brakes instead of wearing their own brakes. Rubber on the road is generally from retreads, not do much heat although that can happen when they dont maintain the trailers theyre transporting from A to B. No one puts retreads on their passenger car/truck. 40k does seem a little premature for wear but i cant see anyone getting close to 250k unless you have a legit engine brake(jake brake) from a diesel truck. Stabbing the brake a few good apps and shifting down is tge way to go but the down shift doesnt hold back your truck and trailer anywhere near a diesel engine jake brake. Maybe an upgrade in brakes and rotors next time if youre towing lots and you have a gasser? Idk. I recommend some avid 220's. Mega power on teh steepz yo

Retreads are only part of it.
Yes I have a diesel pickup. If I want to engine brake, I take it out of overdrive, or down to 2 or 1. If 1 can't hold me slow enough, I'll have to snub it. But now we're logging, or taking an RV over Slickrock - something beyond the pale.
A 10-12 thousand pound trailer won't shove it coming down Cabbage Leaf in 3rd gear, and I'll have to shift up to maintain speed on the flatter stretches. I don't have to touch my brakes if I set my speed right and no elk or volkswagen-sized rocks jump out at me...The rest is appreciating I'm driving a 7000lb pickup towing a 12000lb trailer, and that I have to anticipate like it's winter, which it is here for 6 months at a time anyway...
Truck's got a little over 300,000 [turns 25 this July]. I replaced front pads 3 years ago, and rear drums, shoes, cylinders summer before last.
Trailering the Alcan is actually easier on my truck's brakes than what rideit just did to his in 1 afternoon.Last edited by highangle; 05-16-2021 at 08:02 PM.

I think you are still missing the point that the wear wasn’t from yesterday, it just gave up the ghost yesterday.
Shit happens, things wear out.
It’s just brake pads.
And maybe a rotor turning.
Edit: just looked at my records, I last changed the pads in ‘18, around 70k ago.
Seems about right with shitloads of loaded trailering over dozens and dozens on mountain passes, probably twenty times over Teton Pass.Last edited by rideit; 05-16-2021 at 09:11 PM.

We only do rooftop tents here, and we all have them already, so no worries.
