@steal: I'll agree with your proposition.
Yes, but just think of that Japanese transistor radio with one c cell, or a cheap flashlight from 1975

No doubt but the sooner we get past lithium the better for everybody.
Agreed. I eagerly await the death of the generator in camping environments.
We are so close, but yes, the next leap in tech is a doozy, from what I hear.

Cancer treatments.
Just a few years ago a stage 3 melanoma diagnosis was a death sentence.
My comment was a sarcastic reply on how corporate products and quality of life are somehow connected for people but I hear ya. Printers also if we are going there.
Tech advancements are key for quality of life, I appreciate electricity and being able to move my disgusting shits miles away with a simple flush, but my life isn't better because I can answer emails on the tram. Because I'm expected to answer emails on the tram.
Skateparks.

I know medical technology was mentioned but certainly knee surgery deserves a special shout out here. And physiotherapy has come along nicely in the last half a century. Alternate energy sources (cost, effectiveness) are improving exponentially. I'm a better cook than I was a few decades ago. Also, on a personal note, since I started mountain biking so late (in my early fifties), I'm actually better than I was 10 and even 5 years ago.

Motorsports safety, from the vehicles to protective wear
People’s ability to complain about shit.

Ice hockey--the speed and skill level have never been higher. Now if they could get rid of the fighting and cheap shots. (I'd rather watch international hockey--the wider rink makes for a more wide open game with less banging for the puck in the corners, and minimal fighting.)
No one would try to serve you a Jello salad anymore except as a joke, there's a real quality of life improvement.
hahaha

Me. I've gotten better and I'm not done yet.
Just don't tell my wife.
Cable TV content. That often they just put something out that you can binge multiple episodes on, absolutely unheard of 20 years ago.
Not to mention sports channels.
and I guess TVs too. I mean, flat screens didn't exist, outside of a novelty, 20 yrs ago.
