Interesting. As it appears to be an external coating, might end up being used more as a DWR? I bet Nikwax was the first one to call them!

Necessuty is the mother of invention. Vancouver seems like a logical place to develop waterproofing. Will i be able wipe bacon grease ketchup and mustard off my shirt though

Well, you need to move to a place where it rains mustard and ketchup, duh.

Like water off a duck's back. Now they need to find a way for it to repel spray paint.

If you watch an " The old Nature of things" David Suzuki was always wearing a gortex TAIGA shell which actualy weren't that great but everybody on the UBC campus was wearing them
IME becuz of the CBC most Canadians know who Dave is but most Americans probably not
BUt call me stupid cuz I thot a university would be the good place to develop a new DWR, notice the inventors are Chinese, if this was America some one would claim its part of a conspiracy to spread the covid
I got older just 5 km or so from that hallowed place of higher learning but all I ever did was get high outside the SUB,Lee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

everything but actualy going to uni ... people have said I got the best part of uni

I remember that show! Over thirty years now, back when Discovery Channel was actually about "discovery".
Around the time that that show was airing, I worked for a famous, and very well-funded geneticist at Cal Tech. He once told a story about how Suzuki complained how high-profile scientists, like my then boss, were receiving waaaaay more than their fair share of the available monies allocated for basic research. Mentioned my boss by name, in fact. Of course, Suzuki would have been receiving funding from the Canadian government and not the NIH...I hadn't thought to bring that small matter up and why this ought to have been a matter of contention for Suzuki.
I noticed just two (2) Chinese names mentioned, while there are clearly additional inventors per the article. Coulda been more Honky inventors than Oriental.Daniel Ortega eats here.

Suzuki has never been as pure as his acolytes claim. No stranger of exaggerating the facts, and even making outright falsehoods where it suited the politics. Close friend of the family is very well connected in the prov Lib party. Suzuki sitting at the same table as Glen and and Christy during party fundraisers. Suzuki may have started with noble intentions, but the years in the adoration spotlight has cast many shadows. But he certainly has stimulated a lot of interest in the young towards the environmental sciences, myself included. Hard not to have been as a youth in the 70's, especially in BC.
Nick and Relic also played a pretty influential role as well. I think seeing Molly's Reach in person was near as exciting as a visit to the PNE when I was a pre-teen.

Back when I lived in Vancouver, I'm stopped at a red light on Granville, heading toward downtown. The light turns green, and the guy in the big luxury sedan behind me is riding my rear bumper like I'm towing him. I'm literally accelerating as fast as my 50% rust Toyota wagon can so I can move over and let him pass, but as soon as there's exactly one car length between me and the car in the right lane, the guy behind zooms around on the right. I look over to see who this road-rage douche is, and it's none other than Suzuki.
Later, I told my girlfriend, who was a photographer for the Georgia Straight, and she said, "yeah, I worked an event he was at. He's an arrogant prick. I thought everyone knew that."

I know his niece and others from his faculty (before or after he was asked to leave for academic indiscretion?) . None of them have good thing to say about the guy.
