Menthols aren’t Kool anymore
Thoughts?
Weed is legal, but you can’t smoke a Newport?
I haven’t smoked in decades, thank god, but it’s a victimless crime.
Unless you want to cry about healthcare costs. In which case I say ban HFC. That shits evil.
I’m also against seatbelt and helmet laws.. . .

Well, then ban all tobacco.
Why menthol?
PS. Many things we choose to do shorten our lives. Skiing is dangerous. Skiing without a helmet should be legal.
You’re drunk driving strawman is foolish. That’s not just killing yourself.
And lung cancer is not guaranteed. . COPD is almost certain to happen. . .

Because it's racist. Seriously. [Benny ducks] Black people smoke menthol. It's a thing, although my old man smoked Alpines, just as bad. They are even more harmful than regular cigarettes.
But, yeah, ban all cigarettes now. How one is able to buy them is beyond me, although they are ridiculously expensive, and really hard to consume in public.

Over 80% of blacks smoke menthol.
It is racist. But I guess big government knows what’s best for them.
What’s next? Rib joints? All that smoked meat is loaded with carcinogens.
They banned menthols in my town. I know two folks that pay $15 a pack for bootlegs. It’s crazy.. . .

Newports were the currency of handball games back in the bronx in the late 80's. I blame them for loving the tabacco.
Do I give a shit if they are cut off? No. Is it a good life choice, prolly.

My grandmother smoked menthols up until the late 70s. Didn't end up with cancer but DID end up with COPD. Grandfather smoked up until the 50s. Told me he quit because he was like "Wait a sec. This can't be good for you." and stopped on his own because it seemed blatantly obvious. Impressive for back then. Tried to get grandma to quit but she didn't want to until it was even more obvious that menthols couldn't be good for you either.
Either way, I still view menthols the same way I view any other tobacco product. Your choice. Wanna blast your lungs with tar for decades? Go for it. And yup. I've had multiple family members die horrible deaths from smoking. Couple of them got emphysema pretty bad. Now while the tobacco companies obviously ran a bunch of misleading marketing campaigns for decades, at THIS point, the onus is certainly on the individual. We've known for ages now about the risks of tobacco. Menthols even more so.
And now they gotta make it a race issue too? Actually sounds kinda racist that people out there think black people aren't smart enough to make decisions for themselves. Pretty insulting when you think about it. I would love to see one of these cracker nanny law makers go to a corner store in a predominantly black part of town, and tell the patrons there that they are there to take away their menthols. "But guys! I'm doing this for YOUR safety!" Yeah. Let's see how that'd go down. Hahaha.

$ would be better spent on ads/education versus ban/enforcement.

Agreed. Old, white Democrat leaders do NOT know their black voting base if they think they'll be keeping their loyalty and support by instantly banning Newports. Will of course be easy enough to score grey market cigs. So yeah. Wanna run an anti-menthol ad campaign? Yeah. Go for it! But banning it? What the heck? That came out of left field. I do NOT remember Biden talking about that during his campaign.

It may be well intentioned but like prohibition of almost all things will be ineffective and have bad, unintended effects. See: prohibition of alcohol, marijuana, etc.

along the same lines were'nt flavored vape products banned ?
CBC interviewed a women named Lateiesha who has been rallying against menthols for 15 yrs in I think it was minneapolis , she said cig makers have definatley targeted the black community, that if folks can't borrow a menthol they will just give a plain cig a pass
it won't be against the law to smoke menthols just to sell them
these folks should probably all get a Vax as swellLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

Time will tell, but I think vaping will turn out to be more harmful or just as harmful as smoking
