TR: hyperbaric oxygen therapy
as some of you know, i've accumulated some tbi over the last few years. in an effort to reverse some of the damage, i was recently prescribed hyperbaric oxygen therapy. i had my first treatment yesterday afternoon and my second this morning. basically i go into a really thick, really big septic tank for 100 minutes and watch shitty movies with mildly retarded strangers. the first few minutes are the pressurization stage when the tank fills to 2 atmospheres, equivalent to something like 70 feet underwater. after that, i don a plastic hood-ish thing akin to one of those fancy hazmat suits. the hood thing fills with 99% pure oxygen and i breathe that in for the rest of the dive.
the nice lady who did my intake gave a cursory scientific explanation which was mostly over my head but i took away this basic understanding: the enriched oxygen supplied to my brain tissue promotes stem cell release which means healing or something along those lines. anyway, i'll be doing this twice a day, five days a week, for four weeks. i can't tell any difference yet but have experienced some tiredness and blurriness but both those things are apparently normal. once i get a little further along into this and start seeing some results, i'll report back. i had an spect scan done which showed the tbi a few weeks ago so hopefully i'll have a follow up scan to prove tissue restoration. pics to come."somebody's gotta do it"

Interesting treatment, I hope it works for you and provides relief. I would be interested to see pictures of this septic tank if you are allowed to take pics.

Cool.
If you get anxious easily I recommend reading this when you're done with your time in there.

this is super interesting thanks for posting.
maybe you already mentioned it - but is there any objective testing done before and after?
I know a lot of chronic symptoms from head injury are not easily measured - just wondering how one gauges the results (or how the people administering the treatment gauge results)

Yep. So I had a spect (single-photon emission computed tomography) scan done a few weeks ago which led to the conclusive diagnosis of the damage itself and prescription. The symptoms were gauged using something called a total brain assessment which measures a few different metrics related to overall brain function. So the spect is the baseline for actual physical trauma; the assessment for the emotional cognitive symptoms.

Actually watched dances with wolves and Dave today. Both excellent films in their respective ways.
Pretty relaxing really ‘cept for this old lady that kept trying to tell me bout “Indian” history during dances with wolves. “Did you know that they used every part of the Buffalo so none of it went to waste?!”

If only they let you smoke menthols in the tube.
Seen any hydraulic turtles? They live under pressure. That’s why they’re hydraulic

oh yeah, i forgot about this thread.
i finished my treatments like a month ago and really can tell no difference. i'm supposed to get that second SPECT scan mid-July so maybe that will show results that i just can't feel. i don't know. i consider it a waste of money and time at this point."somebody's gotta do it"
