Gardening Mags: Hori Hori
The Covids has me gardening again. Lost my Hori Hori along the way. Anyone have recommendations on a decent one that won't the bank.
The Hori Hori is the multi-tool of gardening. Hand spade, saw, knife, weeder, all in one tool. One of the best tools ever.

Any other unique or unusual garden tools you can’t live without?
I’ve never seen these and want one now.. . .

Seriously, check out the link I posted above. Great japanese gardening tools along with knives and woodworking tools. It used to be The Japan Woodworker back in the day. My wife used to hide those catalogs from me in pre-internet times.

I used a AM Leonard soil knife often when I worked at a nursery and on landscape crews. Just looked, they are like $25.00...Now I want one of my own too.
That hidatool site is sweet...I have a few pairs of Okatsune bypass pruners and a couple nice silky saws I need to retrieve from my parents place.

Have a 20-year old one of these, too, though I didn't get it from Hida:

The AM Leonard looks like the one I had previously. Awesome tool may go this route again. Really liked the molded grip. Awesome tool for dividing perennials.

Based on this thread, I now own a hori. Cool tool
Also awaiting delivery on this

Totally different scuffle hoe. Will report back after it arrives. I have plenty of weeds that need a scuffle kerfuffle. . .

Here's a couple of those Hori Hori s. This is from Hardwick and Sons website. They were a local Seattle Hardware store specializing in unusual and imported tools. They recently moved to Idaho. Lot's of cool tools on their website even more in their brick and mortar store. They seem to stock only quality stuff.

FYI my “rogue hoe” is so much better than a scuffle hoe. Like butter.

Facebook’s censors are digging deep — flagging the word “hoe” in a western New York gardening group because they apparently confused the tool for a disparaging term for women.
A group called WNY Gardeners has been repeatedly flagged by the social network for “violating community standards,” when its more than 7,500 members discussed the long-handled bladed implement, which is spelled with an “e,” unlike the offensive term.. . .

Wow. Alert the media.

Well yeah I guess the media knows.
But back on point. My rogue hoe has seen way more use than my hori.
But the hori is my go to tool for sprinkler repairs. Used to use a trowel. But that thing slices and dices like a ginsu. . .

Hori Hori is ordered. I was just looking at my perennial garden and thinking how I was gonna attack the aspen shoots this fall.

Add me to the list of owners thanks to this thread.
In the past week I have spent as much time at https://roguehoe.com/ as I have browsing for ski gear. I’m still trying to decide what would work best for me but am planning a Rogue Hoe purchase.

I bought one of the Amazon ones earlier this year and it has become our most used garden tool. Thanks for the recommend.

I can't imagine how I would take care of the garden without the gardening tools that my mother-in-law gave me. She found them in her garage. Probably these tools belonged to my husband's grandmother. She was growing hydrangeas on the porch of her house. I also can't imagine my garden without lighting. I recently ordered a wonderful lighting on https://trimthatweed.com/best-front-porch-lights/.The lighting makes the garden especially cozy and it's nice to sit there in the evening with a cup of tea.
