Some obvious ones that Cy missed.
It’s better to just pony up and hire a professional the first few times.
Groups of 3 or 4 can be real fun but big groups are dangerous.
Timing is everything. Peak out to early or to late and you are not going to have as good of a time. And your partner is going to be disappointed.
