What does a Sprinter conversion get for real world mpg? I'm getting 14-15 mpg in my '04 E350 and it's a lifted brick with a high top. Can't imagine a Sprinter camper is getting 30...are they?

I'd guess lighter converted sprinters get around 20. Do you really get 14+ in a high top 350? Diesel, I assume? That's way above what I've heard most people get with full sized vans.

My GMC 3500 work van gets 12-13 with a 6L gas engine, and I drive like a grandma. My 22' Winnebago gets 12, diesel.

Yes. I always hand calculate, start full on a trip, fill up when home and divide miles driven by the amount of fill up. Also track along the trip if I fill up. A 46 gal tank gets me pretty far though. 6.0L with some bulletproofing and an economy tune. If I go over 70, mileage tanks. Best I've done is 16.5 doing 55 in OR. Worst I've done is 11 going 80 on the freeway to NM.

He does have a jerry can, fastened to the right of the one less sprinter storage box. Quite the “capable” off road shuttle rig, space for 7 bikes? Was hoping I saw the dude so I could ask him where he shuttles folks, and how much all those purdy accessories + 4x4 conversion cost compared to the sprinters he hates so much.

His van probably cost $100-200,000 less than a new sprinter conversion with 4x4 and those bumpers/accessories.

Where was this spotted at? Pretty sure I saw that van a lot at trailheads in the Tucson area this winter.

The 4 cyl diesel 2WD sprinters with 7 spd can get an honest 25 mpg real world hwy. the 6 cyl diesel AWD sprinters had a 5 spd and with typical upsized AT tires get 16-18 hwy depending on size (tall roof). My short WB diesel transit got 24 mpg when it was stock and partly built out. Now, with 2” lift and part time 4WD and bigger AT tires and 1100 lbs or so of fully built out crap, 21-22 typical tank (mostly hiway).

The modern vans are efficient but then people throw on roof racks and shit and aerodynamics get worse.

Bonus points for the vanity license plate and creative traction board attachment? Snorkel and gas cans out of view on the right. Couldn't tell what the red handled tool next to the jack was, shovel or something more serious.
Quite pleased with my first catch I must say...

The red handle is the Hi-Lift jack handle.

Bonus points to you for getting "29.7 mpg" in the same photo as the Jeep!

    So jeepers enlighten me...

What’s the point of an exoskeleton rack on a hard top jeep? Seems a little redundant redundant absent a soft top.

And watch through open air as the 300 lbs of stuff up there sways and shakes and slowly busts welds and strips bolts on the rack if you actually offroad.

You can't structurally mount all the gotos on the hardtop even if you never plan to remove the top anyway.

Gotcha - thanks for the feedback.

I assumed all that shit went on a roof rack that mounted directly to the hard top. Looks like a real chore to get top off with that contraption around it. Only ever seen them on soft tops before. Live and learn.

Hinge step. Part of it folds down for roof gotos access.

When you run out of things to bolt to your Jeep, the Jeep elves design more stuff.

    That’s it...it’s time to play G.O.T.O.S.

This is a few years old. Among other things, there’s a box of firewood up there and a skinny Thule box

    Epic fail.

But sweet rig. I miss having a tailgate. Damned soccer moms killed it.

But that rear cargo is full. And now you have a nice seat bench to put on ski boots or just chill.
