Thanks for posting. I would not want to be on the wrong end of some evacuating moose.

Ironically, we're having the clearest skies we've had in weeks. Sitting in that clear bubble just above the jog in the state line.
Of course the clearing is the result of the increasing SW winds that are threatening SLT, Desolation Wilderness, Mokolumne Wilderness, S@T and Kirkwood. I'd take the smoke if I could.

I guess with snow levels going up every year the only way to provide an "alpine" experience is to burn off all the timber

The Caldor Fire has officially jumped to the east side of HWY 89, so it is on both sides of the drainage directly to the south of South Lake Tahoe. 20 MPH sustained S winds are forecast for this afternoon, with gusts to 30 MPH and RH at 13%.

Fingers crossed for everyone (especially mags) affected. Hoping for some chance for resources on the ground to catch the easternmost spots before they get blown north in the afternoon.

I saw they were running the snow guns as water guns in an attempt to slow the flames.

Such utter destruction....something like 500+ homes destroyed....

Vibes to all in this fires path. Mags get out when you can....stay safe citizens and firefighters.

The southeast lobe of the dixie fire seems to be the most active--spreading southeast despite the wind direction and has reached the north shore of Lake Davis, according to the NWCG map.

The fire crowned in 2 pines behind the house and burned through brush about 100 ft east to the next house, which wasn't damaged. Strong work by the firefighters. SW Gas was out inspecting today.
Apparently the helicopter and the fixed wings had just taken off from Truckee Airport en route to the Dixie Fire when they were diverted to Donner Lake, or things could have been much worse.

We used the sun valley snowmaking system for the castle rock fire in 2007…

No snow guns though, at least where I was working, but we used the water delivery infrastructure to rapidly fill helicopter dipsites for rapid turnaround and fill engines and ran normal fire hoselays off tanks being fed by snowmaking lines. It was super fun.

I was disturbed by a plane and then 2 Choppers flying over me
I go outside looking at the plane circling the valley. And I see several sets of flashing lights climbing a nasty slope on the mountains north of Verdi
I could not see evidence of a big fire but it must be there

Fire on the mountains north of Verdi
Last time we had a fire there it burned clear to rob drive

No wind. But it’s dark now
