    Ski Chile 2021

That temporal ended up going from 60-80km winds to blowing foggy goop, which morfed into escarchilla alternating with a lite freezing drizzle.

    Dawned clear, epic moon set.

Spot the daredevil hucker on the ridge of Las Flores run, under the old Las Flores chair, which actually ran today!

From the La Nevada lift, south-south exposures skiable wind ruffled escarchilla

The Las Flores run, never really opened this year. Nice example of escarchilla, a kind of mini styrofoam ball. Doable?

It was, barely. But since Las Tórtolas chair was closed due to wind, and Las Águilas chair running barely with whirlwinds at the top, we kept to the Pomas, which had their own challenges.

    Ski Chile 2021

Worth it, even if just for the ride up.

So was La Nevada, the peste azul’s (kids racing team) playground.

Well rounded day. Got the grandkids on the Manzanitos platter.

4 and 6. Second day skiing.

Antillanca yesterday, finally got snow at the bottom, but too windy to open the lifts. There are tracks in there. More snow in the forecast.

Cardinal Samore is the nearby pass to villa Angostura and Bariloche.

Finally, it is actually snowing a bit more than just escarchilla in La Parva.

Not a nice day to ski.

Cristian W posted a couple good videos with recent lines in Valle Arenas, Cajon del Maipo

A buddy with all the toys sent me this from Lonquimay. “Meters and meters” of snow he said.

Perhaps 30cm have fallen in the 3 Valleys over the last week, with the last 10-15cm not getting blown off exposed faces. The first snowfall was wind packed, so the last one covered that wind pack, making certain nooks and crannies skiable. Which ones? That is the question!

    Valle nevado before

    Valle Nevado after

If you don’t have a nose for those few hidden nooks, better stay on the runs.

This odd detonated avalanche shows how the snow has accumulated in specific spots.

    Portillo says

“After receiving a generous Santa Rosa storm of 27 inches (70cms), we are happy to be back on the slopes!

Portillo was finally able to open to the local public this past Saturday. Restrictions on international travel remain but for now we are grateful to be able to ski again!

And the little racers are out in force

    In La Parva

    And Antillanca

    The crowds are back too

    La Parva

In spite of the heat, Las Flores was groomed for the first time.

    And La Muela was skiable!

In this quirk of nature, Portillo got a good dump yesterday, and La Parva, 60km away in a straight line, got nothing.

    Ski Chile 2021

Some stoke from the O’Higgins region just south of Santiago. A vast, glaciated area with unusual granite peaks (for the central zone), this crew spent 10 days exploring the area from a base camp, and getting some wonderful lines. In Spanish, with a focus on the hydrographic aspect of the area.

Lippi is a local brand of outdoor wear and gear.

    https://www.lippioutdoor.com/andesin...4X1-290FiY9De8

It was in this area that the Uruguayan soccer teams aircraft went down about 50 years, and they survived by cannibalizing the dead.
